Gary "Lumpy" Oliver Hall, age 58, of Newark, Ohio passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, October 30, 2025. He was born in Columbus, Ohio on July 21, 1967, to the late J.P. Hall and Margaret Ann (Lucas) Hall.
Gary married his love, Jeannettee "Jenny" Hall on October 16, 2004. Together they shared 21 fun-filled, magical years of marriage.
Gary worked for Newark City Schools as a bus driver for 14 years. He had many friends at work and enjoyed seeing the children and giving them some funny thoughts as they entered the bus for the rides to and from school.
Gary was a foster parent for 20 years for NYAP. He was a Christian and believed in making this world a better place by taking care of others. Gary was an avid Buckeyes and NASCAR fan, his favorite driver of all time being Dale Earnhardt, Sr. He was a diehard Browns and Cleveland Indians fan as well. Many friends and family members would give him grief over his beloved Browns, but he stayed true to his team, and he had a very special hand gesture to share with those that tried to bring him down.
Gary loved cooking, smoking meat, and drinking beer. He enjoyed watching Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives and planning trips to visit many of the eateries featured on the show. This allowed him and his family to share special meals, conversations, and form wonderful memories together. He was a music lover, especially of country, rock and hard rock genres.
Gary's number one priority in his life was his family. He was a romantic husband to Jenny and treated her like gold. Gary was devoted to his children and grandchildren. He loved giving them special nicknames like "Cornbread" and "Sweetie Peetie" and you knew if you received a nickname from Gary, you were someone loved by him. Gary was kind, generous, had a great sense of humor, and was a man with a big heart. There will never be another like him. Gary will be forever loved and deeply missed by all who were blessed to know him.
Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Jenny Hall; children, Joshua (Jennifer) Morgan, Brandon (Alisha) Wiley, Hunter (Montanna) Hall, James Stewart Wallace, and Jessica Ann-Nicole Hall; grandchildren, Jeffery, Jared, Barbie, Arianna, Faith, Paisley, Christian, Bria, Ariah, Aveah, Braden, Navada, and Hendrix; great-grandchild, C.J.; brother, Gregory J. (Susan) Hall; close cousin, Ted Goodman and special nephew, Michael G. Hall; father-in-law, Joseph Wiley; brothers-in-law, Joseph (Jennifer) Wiley and James M.T. Wiley; sister-in-law, Sharon Thompson; furry dog friends, Jake and Sasha; and many loving cousins, nephews, nieces, in-laws, and friends.
Gary was preceded in death by his father, J.P. Hall and mother, Margaret Ann Hall; mother-in-law, Sharon Wiley; brother, Roy E. Hall; a sister; and his nephew, Matthew Hall.
A Gathering will take place on Friday, November 7, 2025, from 11:00 A.M. – 1:00 P.M. with a Memorial Service to follow at 1:00 P.M. all at Snyder Funeral Homes, DeVore Chapel, 637 North State Route 61, Sunbury, Ohio 43074. Pastor Ron McCartey officiating.
The family will be having a Celebration of Life Party to honor Gary in the way he would want, fun and laid back after the service concludes.
