Gary Neil Hargraves, 74
Gary Neil Hargraves, of Okeechobee, Florida, went home to be with the Lord on October 28, 2025, surrounded by family at Hospice of Okeechobee Hamrick Home.
Born on May 26, 1951, in Okeechobee, Florida, Gary was a lifelong resident whose dedication, compassion, and faith touched countless lives. Early in his career, he worked at his parents' family business, Eddie's Supermarket, before pursuing his passion as a master gunsmith and owner of Gary's Guns & Accessories. Gary later served his community with distinction as a deputy with the Okeechobee County Sheriff's Office, where he rose to the rank of Captain and helped establish the county's School Resource Officer program- an enduring testament to his commitment to protecting and mentoring young people. Following his time in law enforcement, Gary also worked as a life and health insurance agent, and later in life, he continued his wife's legacy of service by supporting individuals with disabilities as a direct service provider.
A devoted Christian, Gary was a faithful member, deacon, and head of safety and security at First Baptist Church of Okeechobee. His steadfast faith and servant's heart were evident in every aspect of his life.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar and Roselle Hargraves; his beloved wife, Doris Hargraves; and his sister, Carole Anderson.
He is survived by his sons, Richard (Tonya) Hargraves and Steven (Kimberly) Hargraves, both of Okeechobee, FL; his daughter, Cynthia Boyd (Jeffery) of Vero Beach, FL; eight grandchildren, Kyrstin (Joseph), Kyla (Jakob), Wyatt, Courtney, Ruthie, Megan, Madison, and Tucker; and six great-grandchildren, Brayden, Oliver, Harper Grace, Lynzee, Lilliana, and Knox. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of loved ones who will cherish his memory.
Above all, Gary was a loving son, husband, father, proud grandfather, and even prouder great-grandfather. His family was his greatest joy and the heart of his life. His legacy of faith, love, and service will continue to live on through all who knew and loved him.
Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until service at 2 p.m. on Saturday, November 1, 2025 at First Baptist Church of Okeechobee. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers and in honor of his memory the family requests you give to one of his passions Okeechobee First Baptist Church Children's or Youth Group ministries and/or Hospice of Okeechobee, whose compassionate care and kindness provided great comfort during Gary's final hours.
"He will cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you will find refuge."
- Psalm 91:4
