Gary Lee Horstmeier, 78, of Kingdom City passed away Friday, August 11, 2023 at his home.
He was born to the late Edwin and Ellen (Jungermann) Horstmeier on December 4, 1944 in St. Charles (Harvester), Missouri.
He was in the United States Air Force Reserves immediately after high school. His hobbies included anything with a hot-rod motor. Gary was big into drag racing during his high school years (which came in handy when he was an ornery teenager out-running the cops) then later added the interest of tractor pulling in his adult years. With this tractor pulling obsession came the development of his tractor, The Harvester Hustler, as well as a family tradition and many lifelong friendships. Another favorite pastime of his, that also bonded many close friendships, was gathering around the tables with the boy's coffee club in Gasper's Truck Plaza.
Gary had a grading/excavating business and crop farm of many acres. He and his family moved from St. Charles, Mo to Fulton, Mo in 1980 so he could expand the farming operation, which became a large corporation that he and Darren grew together.
Gary is survived by his loving partner and caregiver of many years, Mary Garrison; son, Darren Horstmeier (Stephanie); daughter, Dawn Horstmeier Green (Fred), all of Fulton; grandson, Dalton Horstmeier (Abby) of Moberly; granddaughter, Baileigh Horstmeier of Fulton; great-granddaughter, Brennis Horstmeier; great-grandson, Morgan Horstmeier; sister, Donna Berlekamp of St. Charles; also Linda Horstmeier, Michelle Goins (Miles), Ryan Brauner, Gage Garrison and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother-in-law, Vernon Berlekamp.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, August 18, 2023 at Maupin Funeral Home with Kevin Wilkerson officiating. Friends will be received from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm Thursday, August 17, 2023 at the funeral home. A private burial with full Military Honors will be held after the service at the Horstmeier Farm.
Memorial donations can be made to Callaway Youth Expo c/o Maupin Funeral Home, 301 Douglas Blvd., Fulton, MO 65251.
