In Loving Memory
Gary Listen Lacy
Gary Listen Lacy, age 70, passed away at his Colville, WA home with his loving wife and son by his side on the afternoon of November 14, 2022. Gary was born on November 25, 1951 to Frank and Dorothy (Jensen) Lacy in Grand Island, Nebraska.
Gary's family moved around quite a lot throughout his childhood, eventually settling in Ogallala, NE, where he would complete his high school career. Here, he developed a passion for sailing that would carry on throughout his life. Gary built a 17-foot sailboat, his very first, before graduating high school, and successfully sailed it for several years before selling it. Soon after graduating, Gary made the selfless decision to serve his country, enlisting in the U.S. Army in 1975. Gary was stationed in several locations throughout his military career before leaving the military in 1978.
Gary would settle down in Washington, making it his new home before finding his way back to the military in 1984, completing an additional 11 years of service before his final retirement in 1995. Along the way, he would meet and marry the love of his life, Janet Siddle, in England in 1989, and the two would welcome a son, Michael, in 1992.
Following Gary's retirement, he and his family would spend his time living on a 42-foot sailboat off Florida's coast, and would return to the Pacific Northwest in June of 1996, settling in the border town of Blaine. Gary would come out of retirement to accept a role with homeland security as a federal law enforcement agent. 1997 would see Gary and his family move to Laurier following a transfer with homeland security, and he would continue to serve here and in Northport until his 2011 retirement due to a spinal cord injury.
In retirement, Gary was able to devote more time to his hobbies and enjoying his family. He was an avid collector and builder of RC airplanes, amassing a collection of well over 30 different aircrafts that he had designed, assembled, finished and painted by hand. He also had a passion for firearms, having spent a period of time as a gunsmith between his time in the military, and had a particular interest in antique firearms, especially Broomhandle Mausers from the WWI era. Gary was also a skilled builder, designing, constructing, and finishing several tracked vehicles and pieces of furniture throughout his life.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Dorothy Lacy. He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 34 years, Janet Lacy, and his son, Michael Lacy, along with many friends from throughout his life.
