Gary Lee Leggett, age 88, of Springfield passed away peacefully in his home on July 4, 2025.
Gary was born August 19, 1936, in Rochester, NY, to Leon and Dorothy Leggett. He was a graduate of Charlotte High School, where he met his future wife, Connie Boulter. While stationed at Fort Bliss, TX, they became engaged and later married while he was on leave from his Army post in Ansbach, Germany. After his honorable discharge, they moved to Springfield in 1958 where he attended Central Bible Institute and worked for the Assemblies of God Sunday School Curriculum Department as a part-time editor. After two children were born and earning his B.A. in Religious Studies, they moved to Canandaigua, NY, where he served as an assistant pastor for two years. In 1964, the Sunday School Curriculum Department asked him to return as a full-time editor. Thirty-two years later, after two more girls were born and earning his Master of Divinity from the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary, he retired in 1996 as Editor-In-Chief. In 1999, Gary began his second career as a volunteer laborer for the MAPS-RV Ministry of the Assemblies of God. For 17 years, he and Connie traveled in their RV to work at different church construction projects across the United States, including a 3-month assignment in Alaska. Gary's passion for RV adventures began as a young father. He particularly enjoyed camping, hiking, and canoeing with his family and his fondest recollections were of camping every other summer in Colorado. Throughout his life, Gary taught Sunday School, led Bible Studies, and authored books on the New Testament. He was an astute scholar who cherished the Word of God and relished every opportunity to share and teach the Good News to others.
Survivors include his loving wife, Connie, and four children, Wes Leggett and wife Dea, Christine Leggett and companion Laura Kinner, Sharon Leggett, and Janita Givens and husband Nick, along with 8 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents and his three brothers, David Leggett, Norman Leggett, and Bob Leggett.
To honor Gary's wishes, in lieu of a public memorial service, a small private family service will be held. If desired, donations to the MAPS-RV Volunteers Ministry can be made at giving.ag.org

I met Gary when he hired me as an Editorial Assistant in 1975, shortly after I graduated from CBC. He was a great mentor as a supervisor, and a good friend in later years. He will be missed.
