Gary Lynn Mayfield, 82, of Dellslow, WV passed away unexpectedly at home on August 19, 2025. Gary was born in West Virginia on May 16, 1943, to the late Alpha and Thelma (Varner) Mayfield.
He moved to Delaware in 1964 to begin a career with General Motors; retiring back to West Virginia in 2000
Gary is survived by his wife, Charlotte; daughter Tara (Emmett) of Clayton, DE; and faithful companion, Dylan. He is also survived by his sister, Cathy White of Dellslow, WV; brother Alpha (Bud) Mayfield of North Lawrence, OH; and several nieces and nephews.
Gary is predeceased by his siblings Marie Hagedorn and Larry Mayfield; stepdaughter Felicia Hetzler and nephews Troy Hagedorn and Brent Mayfield.
He will be remembered for his love of music especially Bob Dylan, his love for the game of chess, and his quick-witted humor.
No services are planned.
