GOUVERNEUR – Gary L. "Big Mac" McIntyre, age 78, of Gouverneur, passed away on August 22, 2025 at Upstate Medical University Hospital in Syracuse surrounded by his loving family.

Calling hours will be held at French Funeral Home in Gouverneur on Thursday, August 28, 2025 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. His funeral will be held on Friday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery in Gouverneur. Condolences may be shared online at www.frenchfuneralhomes.com.

Gary was born on May 1, 1947 in Gouverneur to the late William and Myrtle (Roberts) McIntyre. He graduated in 1966 from Gouverneur Central School, where he wrestled and played football. He then studied drafting after graduation.

Gary married Patsy Coates on October 26, 1968. She passed away on July 18, 2009.

Gary worked as the Chief Draftsman for Riverside Iron Works in Gouverneur for over 30 years. After retiring, Gary was a self-employed Draftsman. He had played football for the Red and Black, was an avid golfer at Emerald Greens, was a member of EEE Hunting Club, and enjoyed owning and restoring antique cars. Gary was a life-member of the Gouverneur Elks and a member of the Gouverneur Masonic Lodge. He was the kind of guy who would do anything for anybody.

He is survived by his children, Scott (Jessica) McIntyre, Craig McIntyre, and Carrie (Randy) McIntyre-Ordway, five grandchildren, Mychal (Taylor Hatch), Julia (Jarrett Knight), Cason, Caden and Calynne, and has a great-grandchild on the way. He is also survived by sisters-in-law, Amy Kirsch and Joanne McIntyre, and many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.

Gary is predeceased by his parents, his wife, Patsy, and siblings, Sandra Closs, Dorothy Macaulay and Garnet, Lorn, and William McIntyre.
