Gary is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 55 years, Suzanne Stiles Meredith. His family was his pride and joy. His amazing children are Connie, Jayson, and TJ, and his even more amazing grandchildren are Cooper, Cerys, Preston, and Mackenzie.
Gary was the son of Eugene and Virginia Meredith. His siblings include Jason, Mark (deceased), Pat, Marilyn, and Penny.
Growing up on the family farm in White Mills, he graduated from WHHS in 1965. Shortly after, he was drafted by Uncle Sam and served in Vietnam from 1968-1969. After the war, he earned his BS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Kentucky in 1973 and worked in the private sector for several years, before becoming a civil servant at Ft. Knox with a keen interest in energy conservation and energy independence.
Gary is a Kentucky Colonel, lifelong member of St Ignatius Catholic Church as lector, parish council, Eucharistic Minister, homebound ministry, and maintenance crew. Other memberships include the Lions Club, Archdiocese Pastoral Council, Kentucky Society of Professional Engineers, and the American Legion.
Upon retirement, he became a bicycle cyclist and avid chess player. When you get to heaven, you will recognize him on his bicycle with his chess board under his arm and asking if you would like to take a ride or play a game of chess and have a glass of wine or beer (if Susie's not looking), and if you have something that needs fixing, bring it along and we will try to fix it! That's our 'G.'
Funeral services will be on Thursday May 22 at 11:00 am at the St. Ignatius Catholic Church in White Mills, KY with Rev. Ben Brown and Rev. Roy Stiles officiating. Burial will follow at St. Ignatius Catholic Church Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9:00 am to 11:00 am at the St. Ignatius Catholic Church in White Mills, KY.
