Gary Michael Miodowski, lovingly known to his friends and family as "Big Gary," passed away peacefully on April 30, 2025, at the age of 71.
Born in Detroit, Michigan on November 14, 1953, Gary was the beloved son of Stanley and Jennie Miodowski. He was raised in Clawson, where he graduated from Clawson High School in 1971. In 1977, Gary married the love of his life, Mary, and together they shared nearly 50 beautiful years filled with love, laughter, and unforgettable memories.
Gary was a hardworking man who proudly spent 35 years as a mechanic at Chrysler before retiring in 2008. His work ethic was matched only by his passion for life and the outdoors. Whether he was hunting, fishing, tending his garden, or cruising the water on his beloved boat, Gary found joy in nature and in the simple, meaningful moments of life. He also worked on a farm and had a special love for cooking-his meals were made with heart and always shared generously. A scuba diver and explorer at heart, he especially cherished his visits to the Florida Keys, where he could often be found enjoying his favorite dish: blackened grouper.
Above all, Gary was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary; their children Gary, Lori, and John (Laura); and his cherished grandchildren Julie, Alysun, Hailey, and Mason. He is also survived by his siblings JoAnne Schmidlin, Stanley (Chris) Miodowski, and Dennis (Shirley) Miodowski.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley and Jennie; his sister Donna (Frank) Wiloch; and his brother Ronnie (Linda) Miodowski.
Gary's warmth, strength, and humor touched everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. His memory will live on in the stories told, the meals shared, and the love he gave so freely.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 24, 2025, at 2:00 PM at the Algonac Lions Club, 1905 Mill St., Clay Township, MI 48001. All who knew and loved Gary are welcome to attend and honor the legacy of a truly remarkable man. To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Gary, please visit our floral store.
