Gary Lee Parker

Gary L Parker, 71, of Townsend, Delaware passed from a sudden heart attack on Monday, May 26th.
He is survived by his family, wife of nearly 50 years Alberta, daughter Jennifer, son-in-law Steven, granddaughters Nataleigh and Emmaleigh, son Branden, and mother, Phyllis Pepper.
Gary was a loving husband, father and grandfather. His family was his top priority and are blessed to have shared his life.
He was a man of many talents and skills and was known to be a "fix it person". He had abilities only a few others possess, and these talents were often requested by friends to solve problems. He was a private instrument rated pilot and held a drone pilot's license. He spent years operating heavy equipment including over the road and farming equipment.
Gary's hobbies included a love of boating, fishing and hunting. He was a competitive trap shooter and was on several state championship teams.
His work career was as varied as his life. He is best known around our area as the Director of Operations at Dover Downs International Speedway. He developed the catering /concessions and souvenir systems used at the track and was in charge of those operations during the race weekends from 1988 – 2006. He was part of an elite group of people nationwide working within that field during those years. He traveled the country using those skill at various tracks and events, including the 1996 Olympics in Georgia, Special Olympics, Iron Man triathlon, major name concerts, as well as other events.
He was an organizer who successfully brought together teams consisting of his family and friends to accomplish the difficult tasks necessary in a special event field.
Recently, his "retirement" job was as a crop adjuster in the agricultural insurance industry for RCIS Crop Insurance. He was also employed by Millers' Gun Center at times.
His last act of life was to donate his organs and tissues to the Gift of Life Program so others could benefit.
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 30th, from noon until 2 pm at The Market at Belaire, 4098 Willey Dr., Townsend, Delaware. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the charity of your choice in his honor.
