Funeral services for Gary James Patton will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, September 6, 2024, at
East Leesville Baptist Church with his cousin, Danny Bridges and Reverand Tommy Kiker
officiating. The burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery under the direction of Jeane's
Funeral Services. The pall bearers are Albert Bridges, Danny Bridges, Lloyd Burleson, Steve
Dowden, Rick Howe and Ryan Opio. Prior to the service, there will be a time of visitation from
1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., where loved ones can come together to share their memories and say their
goodbyes.
A lifelong resident of Leesville and a 1970 graduate of Leesville High School, Gary will be
remembered as a true music enthusiast whose guitar was often seen in his hands, bringing joy to
all who heard him play. He enjoyed working at the Vernon Parish Library for 21 years and the
relationships developed through a shared love of books. He enjoyed countless hours of collecting
and listening to his favorite artists. His passion for music was not just a hobby but a heartfelt
expression of his vibrant spirit and zest for life. Whether he was strumming his guitar or
reminiscing about the concerts he loved, Gary's warmth and generosity shone brightly, leaving a
lasting impression on everyone who knew him. A devoted friend, he treasured his friends and
considered them as family.
He is survived by his loving sister, Betty Patton Hinson (Mack); nephews Ryan Opio (Lori) and
Todd Hinson; nieces Kelly David (Danny) and Madonna Sheaffer (David); and numerous great-
nephews and great-nieces. Gary was preceded in death by his cherished parents, Marshal James
Patton and Orelee Bridges Patton.
Gary's memory will live on through the music he shared, the kindness he showed and the lives
he touched. He will be remembered not only for his musical talent but also for his joyful spirit
and the profound impact he had on those around him. His legacy is one of love, laughter, and the
sweet melodies that continue to resonate in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to
know him.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations may be made to East Leesville Baptist Church
Music Ministry or the Vernon Parish Library.

Gary and I had many classes in high school together. Over the last several years we´ve chatted and exchanged music emails. My fondest memory was his invite to a road house to watch him perform, I think it was during our 20th high school reunion, I didn´t go to the class get together and was glad I got to see him play. I´ll miss you my friend, say hello to Janis, Jimi, Alvin Lee and all your blues heroes. Gernot

I will never forget Gary's lead guitar and vocals in "Johnny B. Goode" as part of our 40th LHS70 Reunion Band in front of LHS alums and student body. Teachers and students in the auditorium were dancing in the aisles! He was our LHS70 "guitar slinger" beyond doubt.
