Gary Duane Polson, 70, passed away on November 21, 2025, in Grand Junction, Colorado. Born on January 16, 1955, in Paonia, Colorado, Gary lived a life rooted in hard work, quiet generosity, and deep connection to the land and people around him. Gary lived his entire life on the Western Slope of Colorado, most of which was in Crawford, CO where he was surrounded by family and friends.
Gary dedicated his professional life to the coal mining industry, where he worked tirelessly in maintenance and electrical roles. Over the years, he served as a mechanic/electrician, maintenance foreman, and ultimately as a maintenance superintendent. His commitment to his craft and his steady leadership earned him the respect of colleagues throughout his career.
Beyond his work, Gary found joy and fulfillment in the outdoors and working with his hands. He was an avid hunter and fisherman who cherished time spent in nature. His creativity extended into woodworking and jewelry making; crafts that reflected both his skill and patience. At home, he enjoyed watching old westerns, drawn perhaps to their themes of resilience and frontier spirit that mirrored aspects of his own life.
Gary will be remembered by those who knew him as kind-hearted, gentle in spirit, generous with his time and talents, and charitable in action. These qualities were evident not only in how he lived but also in how he treated others; with quiet dignity and unwavering support.
He is lovingly remembered by his children: son Gary (Joe) Polson and daughter Kara Franco; daughter-in-law Kathleen Cook-Polson; grandchildren Stellar Cook-Polson, Landon Franco, and Alayna Franco; mother Patricia Polson; siblings Scott Polson, Randall Polson, Barb Polson, and Rodger Polson. He was preceded in death by his father, Duane Eugene Polson.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Gary’s memory to Rose Hill Hospitality House at 605 26-1/2 Rd., Grand Junction, CO 81506. The Rose Hill Hospitality House enabled Gary's kids and grandkids to be at his side during his final days.
Gary's family would like to personally thank the entire staff at Saint Mary's Hospital in Grand Junction, Colorado. From the nurses, doctors, specialists, janitorial staff, and the palliative care, all of whom were fantastic and treated our dear family member with such great care.
A Celebration of Life will be held on December 6, 2025, from 01:00 PM to 04:00 PM at American Legion 40772 Lamborn Mesa Rd. Paonia, CO 81428. Refreshments will be provided.
