Gray Bruce Reasor, age 78, of Louisville went to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 20, 2025. Bruce was born on July 24, 1946 in Pennington Gap, Virginia to Reuben and Anna Reasor. He is preceded in death by loving wife, Axie Reasor, son Gary Bruce Reasor II, parents Reuben and Anna Reasor, brother, Charlie Reasor and sister, Mary Sue Torbush.
He is survived by three children. Son Jonathan Scott and wife Priscilla Reasor or Taylorsville; daughter Jenifer Reasor of Louisville; and son Matthew Daniel and wife Hannah Reasor of Louisville. Bruce is also survived by 4 grandchildren. Madison Marie and husband Daniel Parker of Brandenburg; McKenzie Danielle Reasor of Louisville; Colin Scott Reasor of Taylorsville; and Liliana Rose Reasor of Louisville. Also surviving are brothers Bobby and wife Ranate Reasor of Connecticut, David and wife Ginny Reasor, of Louisville, as well as a host of nieces, nephews and special friends.
As a small child, Bruce's parents and siblings relocated from Pennington Gap to Louisville. The family began attending Southside Baptist Church on Camden Avenue where Bruce would serve the remainder of his abled life. As a boy he played on Southside's sports teams and while good at each one, he excelled at fast pitch softball. He led Southside teams to many tournaments and trophies. He coached basketball and softball teams there, bringing young men into the church and creating lifelong friendships.
Bruce went to work for A&P as a young man, earning his way up to store manager before opening his own store, Pic Pac Supermarket in 1982. He fell in love and married Axie Bonza on May 23, 1970 and grew their family by three sons and one daughter along the way. Each of the children would eventually work with him as they grew older. Bruce worked hard to support his family and raised them to love the Lord as part of Southside Baptist Church, just as his parents had raised him.
In 2009, Bruce and Axie suffered their greatest heartbreak when their oldest son, Gary Bruce, passed away. They are now reunited with him in the presence of the Lord.
Bruce had a beautiful tenor voice and loved to sing. He joined an acapella group in the 60s called The Motet Singers, a 50-voice group specialized in 8-part harmony. He sang alongside Axie and eventually Gary Bruce and Jonathan as part of the Motet. He made many lifelong friendships within the group and sang with them until the group ended in 2012. Bruce was also an avid knife collector and served in several positions for the Kentucky Cutlery Association.
Bruce was a very proud Papaw to Madison, McKenzie, Colin and Lily, whom he loved to watch grow.
Bruce stood by Axie's side until she passed in 2020 and after this time life because very difficult for him. Through it all, his love for his God, family and friends never wavered. He could find joy, humor and a smile even through his challenges. In the end, Bruce was ready to leave this world knowing there was a better place for him, as there is for all those who believe upon the Lord and accept him as Savior.
His celebration of life service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 26th at Joseph E. Ratterman & Son, 7336 Southside Dr. with burial in Louisville Memorial Gardens-West. Visitation 2-8 p.m. Tuesday, February 25th at Rattermans.
