Gary A. Reed, 75, of Corpus Christi, Texas, passed away peacefully at his home on April 15, 2025, with his beloved wife by his side.
Gary was born in Corpus Christi, Texas, on August 18, 1949, to Tommy & Joyce Reed. He graduated from W. B. Ray High School (Corpus Christi) in 1967, and from Texas A&I University (Kingsville) in 1972, with a degree in Civil Engineering.
Gary worked at the Texas Highway Department several years before joining the CCC Group where he worked for 30+ years. He retired as Chief Estimator of the Corpus Christi office. After retirement, Gary continued as a Consultant for CCC Group for several more years.
Gary excelled at everything he did and was a man of many talents. He was a musician, an avid racquetball player and an excellent wood-worker. He was always willing to assist no matter the need.
In 1971, Gary became one of the original band members of Sandy's Six-Pack (SSP) based in Kingsville, Texas. He exceeded at playing the lead guitar, saxophone, and vocals. SSP played almost every Tuesday night in Kingsville, and then on weekends not only in Kingsville but surrounding areas as well. SSP was a very popular dance band that had many followers and drew large crowds frequently. These were good years.
Gary loved life and people. He loved the Houston Astros, gambling, spending time in the Texas Hill Country, traveling, wood-working, going to the movies, and eating out with family and friends. Gary never met a stranger.
In 1992, Gary's life changed forever when he married the love of his life, Jerilyn "Critter" Reed. The two were inseparable. Gary and Critter went everywhere together and were each other's rock and best friends.
Gary was definitely the best husband, brother, son, uncle, and friend anyone could ask for. He will be forever loved and missed.
Gary is survived by his wife, Jerilyn "Critter" Reed; their precious dog Karlee; his sister Connie (Billy) Bird of Corpus Christi; two sisters-in-law Kathy (Jerry) Hunt of Rockport, Texas and Carolyn (Al) Gordon of Corpus Christi; nephew Shane (Ashley) Culbertson of Williamsburg, Virginia; great nephews Micheal (Becca) Culbertson of New Braunfels, Texas; and Kameron Culbertson of Williamsburg, Virginia; great-great nephew Lukas Culbertson of New Braunfels, Texas, several cousins and many friends. Gary was preceded in death by his parents Tommy & Joyce Reed; his grandparents; several aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
The family would like to offer special thanks to Aadi Home Health & Hospice, especially Eva Rios; Dr. Salloum and staff at the Coastal Bend Cancer Center; the Start Center of San Antonio, Texas; Dr. Bill Dennis; and Tammy Wall PA-C in Corpus Christi. Thank you to all the family and friends that have provided love and support throughout this journey.
Pallbearers will be Shane Culbertson, Micheal Culbertson, Alan Costello, Raymond Gray, Michael Owens, and Sandy Alexander.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church, 3513 Cimarron, Corpus Christi, Texas, 78414, 361-991-5146, in Gary's memory.

Gary Reed a mentor of mine in both School , Work, and Music ! We had a lot of commonality, our mothers lived across the street from each other, we were born in the same week as each other , wound up professionally working with each other . You taught me many things, I have a lot of good memories in every area , I certainly will look forward to seeing you again !
