Gary Omer Robinette went to be with our Lord on September 9, 2022, at the age of 90 in Plano, Texas. Gary was born in Mankato, Kansas on February 11, 1932, to parents Harry Clinton and Ruby (Permelia) Robinette.
Mr. Robinette married Margaret Ann (Roth) Robinette on June 28, 1952. He served in the Army from 1955 to 1957 at Ft. Sill as an SP3 Chaplains Assistant.
Gary earned a Bachelor of Science in 1962 and a Master of Science in 1963 in Landscape Architecture from Michigan State University. He began practicing landscape architecture in New York City in 1963, taught landscape architecture at the University of Wisconsin in Madison from 1965 to 1968, and then worked in the D.C. area for 14 years.
After moving to Plano in 1982, he obtained certification as a Licensed Landscape Architect in the state of Texas, and taught Landscape Architecture at the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) until a stroke forced his retirement in 2011. Gary was a Fellow in both the ASLA and Council of Educators in Landscape Architecture.
He wrote many Journals and Books published in this field. He was the Co-Founder of Agora Communications, a company built to "Create, Print, Publish, and Communicate" their works in Landscape Architecture. Gary was a very talented artist; he did most all the drawings by hand. He served as their President from 1983 to 2008. He received many accolades over the years and was named Michigan State University Outstanding Alumnus. He was also nominated and inducted for inclusion in the 64th and 72nd editions of "Marquis Who's Who", for a Lifetime of Achievement.
In his little free time, Gary enjoyed photography, Bonsai Plants, and their numerous cats. He was a member of Chase Oaks Church in Plano and enjoyed being active with his Life Group, which he considered his closest friends and family.
Gary was survived by his wife Margaret of 70 years, and their "Fur Kid" Princess. Gary was preceded in death by his parents Harry and Ruby, brother Alan, and niece Tanya Robinette.
A memorial service to honor both Gary and Margaret (who passed away shortly following Gary's death) will be held at 3:00 p.m.
Thursday, October 27, 2022 at Allen Family Funeral Options.
The two will be laid to rest together at the Dallas/Ft Worth National Cemetery, Dallas, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, he wanted those generous friends to give to the various charities and organizations in the community.

It is with great sadness I hear about my former teacher Gary´s passing. Gary became like a grandfather to me during my studies to become a landscape architect at UTA. He made the world a little greener and better and I will always keep him in my heart.

Love,

Anna Shine
Former student from Sweden
