Life Reflections: Celebrating Gary Dewayne Rogers Sr.
"Come to Me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." - Matthew 11:28-30
Remembering a Gentle Soul
In the spirit of Matthew 11:28-30, we gather to honor the life and legacy of Gary Dewayne Rogers Sr., affectionately known as "Stank" or "Big Gary." Born on October 15, 1973, in
Memphis, Tennessee, Gary was the cherished son of Vanessa Dale Dorse Lott and Connie B. Rogers. From his earliest days, Gary's faith was central to his character; he professed his hope in Christ at The Lord Tabernacle Holiness Church, a foundation that guided him throughout his life.
A Life of Dedication and Service
Gary graduated from Melrose High School and embarked on his professional journey at Kroger in the early 1990s. He later devoted two decades of loyal service to Vondrehle Tissue Company. In every role he took on, Gary was known for his warmth, sincerity, and willingness to help others. His gentle spirit and selfless nature made him a beacon of kindness, always ready to offer support to those in need.
Family: The Heart of His Legacy
Above all, Gary was a devoted son, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He cherished his family deeply, sharing unconditional love with his children and grandchildren. Gary's nurturing presence created a haven of love and support, and his legacy lives on through the lives he touched.
Celebrating a Life Well Lived
On November 17, 2025, Gary was called home to a place greater than this world. His departure leaves a profound void, but his legacy of love, compassion, and cherished memories remains with all who were fortunate enough to know him. We celebrate Gary for his unwavering commitment to his loved ones and for the light he brought into their lives.
Honoring Those Who Came Before
Gary was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Vanessa Dorse Lott; his stepfather, Harvey Lott; his precious daughter, Vanessa Marie Rogers; and his dear brother, Eric Rogers. Their memories are forever woven into the hearts of those who loved them.
Those Who Remain to Cherish His Memory
Gary leaves behind his wife, Robin Johnson Rogers; devoted father, Connie B. Rogers; caring mother-in-law, Doris P. Loving; uncle, Joseph Jones; aunt, Rosalind Scroggins; sister, Erica Rogers; stepsister, Shara Lott; brother, Markey Rogers; and brother-in-law, Norvel Avant.
Children and Grandchildren: His Pride and Joy
Gary's greatest joy was found in his children: Garielle Rogers, Gary Dewayne Rogers Jr., Alexandria Rogers, Jamarcus Deandre Fuller, and Deshawn Rogers. His seven grandchildren-Jordan Dewayne Rogers, Da'Khari Amir Rogers, Zandria Rogers, Courtez Robinson Jr., Journee Tamyra Fuller, Xavier Davis, and Aston Davis-brought him endless pride and happiness.
Extended Family and Beloved Friends
Gary's circle of love included his cousin/brother, Terrance Scroggins; cousin/sister, Naomi Scroggins; nephew, Jacobie Scroggins; and his special friend, Sharita Humphery. His best friend, Dee-Dee, and a host of extended family and friends were a testament to the relationships he nurtured and the lasting impact he made.
Comfort in Times of Sorrow
As we mourn Gary's passing, we find solace in the words of Matthew 5:4: "Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted." Gary's legacy of love and kindness will continue to inspire all who knew him.
Today, we celebrate not only the life Gary lived, but the love he gave and the comfort he brought to those around him. May his memory be a guiding light and source of peace for all who hold him dear.
I will cherish you beyond eternity!
Naomi
