Gary Scheuerman, of Silver Cliff, passed away on Tuesday, February 17, 2026. Gary was born on August 28, 1950 to Mel and Bev Scheuerman. Gary's life was filled with adventure, family, and the unwavering pursuit of his passions. Some men are defined by their work. Others by their passions. Gary was defined by both.
Gary proudly served in the United States Marine Corps. While in the service, he learned to scuba dive and earned his pilot's license, a passion that truly took him to new heights. Many family members and friends had the honor of flying with Gary. If you were especially lucky, he even let you take the stick and fly. Gary flew his plane to Alaska and made several trips to Canada. His love of aviation inspired his daughter, Carrie and his grandson, Erik to obtain their pilots licenses as well.
After his military service, Gary returned home and began a 38-year career as a lineman with WPS. He took great pride in his work and was known for his dedication. No matter the weather, Gary worked long days and nights to restore power, sometimes going days without sleep or time at home with his family. Linemen are a breed like no other, and Gary embodied that spirit. Along the way, he formed lifelong friendships and built memories he deeply cherished.
Gary met and married his wife, Mary, with whom he built a beautiful family. Together they raised three children and were blessed with eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
After retiring from WPS, Gary turned his focus to restoring classic cars. Gary's first project was a 1968 GTX - just like the one he owned when he met Mary - and he was incredibly proud of it. He spent countless hours in his garage working on projects and passing his knowledge on to his grandchildren.
Gary had a lifelong love of hunting and especially treasured his trips out west with his buddies. Over the years, Gary visited all 50 states with friends and family, by car, truck and camper, motorcycle or his airplane. He lived without fear. Give him a machine and a beaten path, whether snow, dirt, or mud; he was ready. Gary feared no twist, bend, or hill in the road. His adventures were considered terrifying by many, even the bravest among them. If you know, you know. Gary left no stone unturned, and he will be deeply missed. His legacy of courage, curiosity, and passion will continue to inspire all who knew him.
Gary is survived by his wife of 54 years, Mary; his children, Lisa, Carrie (Rich), and Jacob (Missy); his grandchildren, Dominik, Vivian, Donovan, Erik, Dade (Mackenzie), Parker, Hadley, and Rykar; his great-grandchild, Dawson; his brothers, Donald (Marcy), Gerald (Patricia), Lee (Jolene); many nieces and nephews and many other cherished family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and his brother, Dale.
Visitation will be held on Friday, February 20, 2026 at First Presbyterian Church, Lakewood, from 10 am until the funeral service at 12 pm with Pastor Lin Wittman officiating. Military honors will follow the service. Gary will be interred at Lakewood Forest Cemetery in the spring.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to your local American legion, T2T organization, or the Gary Sinise foundation in Gary's honor.
