Gary Neil Shollenberger, 68, of North Wales, PA, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on June 25, 2025, at Pottstown Hospital after a lengthy battle with illness.
Gary was born in Norristown, PA, on May 4, 1957, to the late Robert and Alice (Rowan) Shollenberger.
He is survived and missed by his loving wife Joan (née Szibler) of 38 years; and his children: Brett Shollenberger (fiancé Nadia Ouazzi) and Madison Hudson (Mitch). Forever cherished and remembered by his siblings and their families, his sister Sandy Dahl of The Villages, FL; and his brother Robert Shollenberger of Lansdale, PA. He was predeceased by his brothers Brian and John Shollenberger.
His memory lives on with his nieces and nephews, whom he deeply loved: Dan & Dianne; Stacy, Sheri & Shelly; Jonathan & Scott; and Laura, Ryan & Erin.
He loved the Arts and was an award-winning artist in local Art shows for his paintings. He loved creating new pieces using different mediums. He also had a natural gift for music, learning to play the piano on his own and by ear. He wrote and sung his own songs, and he was also in a band with his friends, called Asterix. You usually could find him playing his favorite music throughout the house. His playful spirit often lit up a room and brought smiles to everyone around him.
Gary cherished his children and extended family with all his heart. He enjoyed spending time with them, celebrating, game nights, Christmas tree hunts, and vacationing in Ocean City, NJ, and his most favorite place, Disney World. Nothing made him smile more than singing, "We're going to Disney World!" He was also a movie aficionado, who enjoyed frequent movie nights and talking at length about his favorites with his family and friends.
Gary's professional career was rooted in computer sciences. He held a degree in Fine Arts with a minor in Computer Science. He began as a database administrator at Rotelli Inc./Data Tech Services and went on to expand his knowledge as a software engineer at Johanna Farms, Solutions Through Data Processing, PECO, and GMAC Commercial Mortgage. He would tell you though, his favorite job was working part-time at the roller rink, "Youngs Regency," where he was a Skate guard in his younger years. It was there that he met his wife, Joan. He also enjoyed a brief time as a weekend DJ.
Relatives and friends are invited to his Funeral Service on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at 11 AM at the Emil J. Ciavarelli Family Funeral Home and Crematory, 951 E. Butler Pike, Ambler, PA 19002. A viewing will be held from 9 AM to 11 AM at the Funeral Home. Interment will be in St. John Neumann Cemetery, Chalfont. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to https://www.aspca.org/ways-to-give to honor Gary's love for animals.
