GARY L. SIMMONS, age 77, of Piqua, OH passed away at 7:37 PM on Monday January 6, 2025 at Ayden Healthcare of Piqua. He was born on December 28, 1947 in Elkins, WV to the late Thomas and Lula (Deetz) Simmons. On December 1, 1973 in Parsons, WV, he married Donna J. Simmons. She preceded him in death on March 12, 2012.
Gary is survived by one brother and sister-in-law: Larry (Beverly) Simmons, Piqua; OH. He was preceded in death by two brothers: Ronald Simmons, Raymond Simmons and one sister: Florence Ziesemer.
Gary was a member of Upper Room Worship Center, Tipp City, OH. He was a deacon at the church for over 10 years, an usher and he also drove the bus. For the last five years Gary was attending the Piqua Apostolic Church. Gary was a machinist at Jackson Tube for 8 years. He was also a coal miner for 17 years in West Virginia where he was a deep miner.
Gary loved to watch TV, especially old westerns such as Gun Smoke and Wagon Train. He was also a Pittsburgh Steelers fan. Most of all, Gary loved to go to Church and Worship. He was a proud member of the Band of Brothers Bible Study.
A service to honor Gary's life will be held at 12:00 Noon on Friday January 17, 2025 at Melcher-Sowers Funeral Home, Piqua, OH with Pastor Dan Mundy and Pastor Greg Simmons co-officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery, Piqua, OH. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM to 12:00 Noon on Friday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Piqua Apostolic Church 830 Covington Ave. Piqua, OH. 45356 or to Care360 Hospice 3455 Mill Run Dr. #100 Hilliard, OH. 43026.
