GLOUCESTER – Gary P. Slocum, 74, of Gloucester, passed away unexpectedly on November 18, 2023 at Addison Gilbert Hospital. He was a veteran in the U.S. Navy for four years from 1967-1970. Gary was a jack of all trades, specializing in mechanics, carpentry, and electrical work. He truly could fix anything.
Gary was a true car enthusiast, who was often found in the summer months cruising in his '57 Chevy Bel Air and attending car shows around the North Shore. Gary worked at Gorton's of Gloucester for thirty-seven years as a mechanic and a processes manager. Then he went on to work for GMC Moore in Danvers delivering auto parts for ten years.
Gary was a very hard worker, could be found always busy doing something and an excellent cook. During his retirement, Gary tended to his vegetable garden, enjoyed making his famous Gary burgers for cookouts in the back yard. Gary and Heidi enjoyed going to concerts and shows. He loved watching the New England Patriots on television, but especially enjoyed seeing them live at Gilette with his friend Billy Burnham. Gary and Heidi spent thirty-three years together and were truly inseparable and always together.
Gary is survived by the love of his life, Heidi Anderson of Gloucester; his stepson, Steven Anderson of Gloucester; brother-in-law, Todd Elwell of Gloucester, his dog, Candi; his brothers, Larry Slocum and his wife Kim, Ronald Slocum and his wife Patsy, Charles Slocum and his wife Sheila; step brothers, Don Slocum and his wife Jackie, Ray Slocum and his wife Shannon and Mark Slocum, several nieces, nephews and cousins, Butch Slocum and his wife Dianne all of LA; his granddaughter, Kazzira Slocum and her husband John of Gloucester; his grandson, Caleb Solcum and his great grandson, Nick Slocum. He was predeceased by his daughter, Amy Slocum; his stepson, Jeremy Anderson, John Slocum and his sister Charlene Solcum. Gary was loved by many and will be deeply missed.
His graveside funeral service will be at Dolliver Cemetery, Lincoln Street, Gloucester on Wednesday, December 13th at 1 PM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Contributions may be made in Gary's memory to the Cape Ann Animal Aid, 4 Paws Lane, Gloucester, MA 01930. Arrangements by Campbell Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester.
