Gary Smith Obituary
He was born August 13, 1944, in Milwaukee Wisconsin, a son to Roy and Doris Smith. He attended Ripon area schools and later received his B.S degree in Electrical Engineering at Milwaukee School of Engineering in 1966, and M.S. degree in Computer Science at Northwestern University in 1969. From 1969 to 1972, Gary worked for Teradyne Applied Systems, Inc. in Chicago. From 1972 to 1976, he formed a new division called Teradyne Central, Inc. After that, he started Chicago Laser System, Inc. which developed new software operating systems and laser trimming computer language to allow efficient process specifications and control by manufacturing personnel.
On September 6, 1975, he married Suzanne Buchholz in Ripon. After getting married, they lived in Buffalo Grove for a while and then moved to Arlington Heights before retiring in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Survivors include his wife Suzanne and his daughter-in-law Dung. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his son, Jason.
Visitation in Palatine for Gary will be on Wednesday July 20, 2022 from 3:00 pm to 7:00pm at Smith-Corcoran Funeral Home, 185 E. Northwest Hwy., Palatine.
Visitation in Ripon, WI for Gary will be on Saturday, July 23, 2022, from 2:00 until 3:00 pm at Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home, 515 Mayparty Dr., Ripon, WI.
Funeral Service for Gary will be held at 3:00 pm on Saturday, July 23, 2022 at Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home, with Pastor Harsha Kotian officiating. Interment will follow at Brandon Cemetery, Brandon, WI. A memorial is being established in his name.
