Gary Lynn Smith born on April 9, 1948, in Byrneville, IN, passed away on May 4, 2025. He was a gifted barber who owned and operated Gary's Barber and Styling for 48 years in New Salisbury, IN, where he took great pride in taking care of his many customers all of those years. Gary was a devoted husband, a pillar of strength and love for his family, and a well-respected member of his community. He served the town of Georgetown on the town board spanning 24 years. He found joy in serving his community and helping people in any way he could, whether it was serving his town, volunteering in his church food pantry, or serving his country in the Marine Corps. Gary was a proud Marine Corps veteran who served in the Vietnam War. Any one who knows him knows he didn't leave home without his Vietnam Vet hat. He was also a beloved member of Georgetown Christian Church for 49 years along with his wife Myra. He served as a deacon for many years and also shared his talents on guitar as a member of the Praise Team for 25 years. It is evident by the life that he lived that he truly had a heart for people and helping in many facets.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Maggie Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Myra. They would have celebrated 56 of marriage this June. Gary is also survived by his son Gary "Mick" Smith (Stacy Kelly), daughter Kayla Lee (Phil Gadola), brother Terry Smith (Sue), 2 nieces, several great nieces and nephews, sister-in-law Terrie Pickett (Wayne) and many cousins and beloved family members. The family would also like to recognize newly adopted family members, Lani and Zoren Parker, who cared for Gary with such love the last 2 years of his life.
Services will be held at Gehlbach & Royse Funeral Home in Georgetown, Indiana, on Friday, May 9, 2025, from 2:00pm until 8:00pm and Saturday, May 10, 2025, at 9:00am until funeral time. The funeral service will take place at the funeral home on May 10, 2025, at 11:00am.
We invite all who loved Gary to share their memories, stories, and photos on his memorial page. Every recollection, no matter how small, helps paint a fuller picture of the wonderful man we have lost. As we fondly remember Gary, let us keep his spirit alive by carrying forward the love and kindness he so freely gave.
