Gary Lee Sperandio, passed away peacefully on March 4th, 2025, in his hometown of Core, WV, at the age of 74. He was born in the same vibrant community on October 28th, 1950, to proud parents Donald and Coleen Sperandio. Gary's life journey began and ended in Core, surrounded by the hills he loved and the people who cherished him.
Gary is lovingly survived by his two sons, Anthony "Tony" Sperandio (Kim) and Donald "Clay" Sperandio (Tara), along with a loving host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren who brought immense joy into his life. His legacy continues through his brother, Danny Sperandio (Martha), brothers-in-law Donald "Buster" Wood and Ronald Wood (Jonda), and sister-in-law Sandy Crites (Harold "Butch"). Special bonds were shared with his nieces Brenda Merrifield (John) and Linda Jaster (Rick), his cousin Jimmy Harvey, and nephews Michael Frame and Cody Wood.
His spirit is joined in eternity with his beloved wife, Rebecca Sperandio; his parents; and his grandparents, Clarence "Dutch" and Pearl Harvey, Tony and Adeline Sperandio, as well as his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Donald and Doris Wood.
Gary proudly served his country as an Army veteran and later channeled his dedication and work ethic into a successful career as a coal miner before retiring. His passions and talents were as diverse as his loving nature. As an accomplished airplane pilot, Gary often soared above the clouds, a testament to his boundless spirit. His love for riding Harley's and playing pool echoed his zest for adventure and friendly competition.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the WVU Hospice nurses for their amazing care.
Family and friends are invited to gather at McCulla Funeral Home on Sunday, March 9, 2025 from 2-5 pm.
