Gary Roger Stone

We gather to celebrate the beautiful life of Gary Roger Stone, a man who met every day with loyalty and steady courage. His 71 years were filled with helpful hands, quick wit, and a heart that always did what was needed. Gary was born on January 8th, 1954 in Nashville, Tennessee. He grew up with a love for wide skies and open fields, a taste he carried into adulthood as a skilled horse and bronco rider which learned while attending Cal Farley's Boy Ranch in TX. Those early rides taught him balance and grit that shaped the rest of his life. At just 18, Gary stepped forward to serve his country. Beginning in 1972 he rose to Specialist Four E-4 while stationed in Texas and was a part of the Multinational Force and Observers that assisted in keeping peace in Israel – Sinai Peninsula – Egypt, a role he carried with quiet pride. During his years of servitude, he earned his pilot's license, Army commendation Medals, Good Conduct Medals, and Army Achievement Awards. His military years fixed his reputation for intelligence, calm judgment, and steadfast loyalty. During his time in the military, he was able to broaden his horizons and was able to use his intelligence in logistics. Away from duty, Gary with his can-do anything attitude, did what was needed and found success in his own way. He went back to school later in life and completed MTSU with a bachelors. From there he went to work for the Metro School System as a Detention Officer. Life at home was Gary's greatest joy. He shared many happy years with his wife of 41 years, Joan Stone, showing daily what a fantastic husband looks like. He was deeply proud of his family, cheering on his daughter-in-law Amy Doyle and delighting in every milestone of his grandchildren Colin Alexander Doyle and Clarissa Doyle. He also survived by aunt, Ann Dale. Gary now reunites with his parents Oscar R. Stone Jr. and Norma J. Mcentire, and with his beloved stepson Gregory William Doyle. Gary and Joan became animal lovers together and shared many pets. Gary was a man of few words, but when he spoke you listened. Today we choose smiles over tears as we remember the man who never hesitated to help. His stories will stay bright for his wife, Joan each grandchild, and every friend who called him family. May every act of loyalty we offer to one another keep Gary's brave spirit close. The world is missing a wonderful man.
