Gary Robert Weiher, age 79 from Franklin, WI, passed away on October 4, 2024, at Heritage Retirement Community in Appleton, WI after a long battle with cancer. He was born on October 21, 1944, to parents Robert Weiher and Carol Volkman in Akron, OH. Gary grew up in Milwaukee, WI with his mother and brother Douglas before graduating from Pius XI High School. Gary went on to study Civil Engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. After graduating, he joined Milwaukee County as a Civil Engineer, kickstarting a 30+ year career in which he shaped the City of Milwaukee with his various bridge and roadway projects.

Shortly after college, he met the love of his life Jacqueline “Jackie” Schinker and the two would marry in 1970. They moved to Franklin, WI where they would build their forever home and raise two sons, Marc and Michael. After Jackie’s passing in 1997, Gary continued to live in their home for the rest of his days. He never remarried.

After retiring from the County in 1999, he purchased a condo in Tampa, FL from his father-in-law where he had taken his family on vacation for years. The home held many happy memories and purchasing it allowed him to continue making memories for years to come.

Soon, Gary would find himself spending summers in Franklin and winters in Tampa. This allowed him to enjoy his many hobbies which included landscaping, woodworking, reading, collecting pristine copies of every shell known to the Florida coastline, solving crossword and sudoku puzzles, and hustling his buddies in a solid game of poker. Later in life, he found enjoyment in watercolor painting, even if it was paint by number.

To know Gary was to know his love for the game of golf. From watching the Masters on TV, to visiting the driving range, to playing a full 18 holes, Gary was very fond of the sport. He managed to get a rare hole in one and shoot par on several occasions. He would pass his love of the game on to his sons who would strive to be as good as he was at the game.

In Gary’s younger days, he enjoyed driving his tiny convertible MGB around town. It became impractical with little kids and Wisconsin winters, so he turned his love to Formula One Racing and rarely missed a race. He also enjoyed sailing and was always drawn to the water no matter where he was.

Gary is survived by his two sons, Marc (Cindy) Weiher, Michael Weiher, two grandchildren, Allison and Eric Weiher, extended family members, and many friends who mourn his loss.

In honor of his final wishes, Gary’s remains will be scattered along his favorite Florida beach in a private ceremony.
