Mr. Gary B. Zimmerman of Nashville, IL, departed this life at SSM Health Good Samaritan in Mt. Vernon, IL on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at 7:38 P.M. He had attained the age of 77 years, 3 months and 16 days.

Gary was born on August 6, 1948, in Centralia, IL, the son of Arnold and Bonnie (Knight) Zimmerman. He was united in marriage to Sharon May on May 31, 1997, and she survives his passing.

Gary devoted his life to serving his community, dedicating more than 30 years to public service. Throughout his career, he faithfully worked as the Nashville City Clerk, Washington County EMS, Nashville Firefighter, Washington County Dispatcher, and Washington County Deputy Coroner. Gary and his wife, Sharon, enjoyed their time in the outdoors such as their time spent living in Colorado, camping, and visiting Washington County State Lake. He also enjoyed being an avid HAM radio operator.

He is survived by his loving wife, Sharon Zimmerman of Nashville, IL; his children, Mark (Susan) Zimmerman, Michael (Michelle Saylor) Zimmerman and Amber (Brett) Detering; step-children, Tim (Erica) May, and Jeremy (Beth) May; grandchildren, Sydney (Conner Sturgeon) Zimmerman, McKenna (fiancé Justin Posey) Zimmerman, Maxwell (fiancée Madi Harvey) Zimmerman, Savannah Zimmerman, Noelle (Justin) Shirley, Zach Zimmerman, Ashley Detering, Andrew Detering, and Austin Detering; step-grandchildren, Chris May, Ryan May, Lukas May, and Finn May; great-grandchild, Jace Shirley; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and mother-in-law, Bonnie Brown.

Per the wishes of Gary and his family, cremation will be performed. No services will be held per Gary's request, and a private celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Should friends desire, memorials may be made to Washington County Animal Shelter and will be accepted by the Campagna Funeral Home, who is assisting the family with arrangements.
