In memory of Gelet Silvain who was born December 22, 1960. In Commune Dame Marie Aslin, Gelet grew up to be a fisher and farm worker, but he did not let where he started from determine his future. He was a man with a dream. His dream was to come to America, to live a better life. Not only for him but for him and his childhood sweetheart Carole Joseph whom he met at 18 years old, whom he later married in life and had 4 amazing children with. Gelet left Haiti in 1990 by himself to chase his dream and on that journey, he faced hardship specifically when the boat he was on headed to America almost sunk. But at that moment, he prayed to God for help and the lord saved him. He spoke about that accident often because he never forgot how God made a way for him out of no way so that he could still pursue his dream of coming to America, not only for himself but his wife and children whom he left behind in Haiti to find a better life for them and by god's grace he made it to America!
He worked hard for 20 years while in America to apply for visas for his wife and children he left in Haiti to fulfill his dream of a better life not only for himself but for his family, the process took 4 years but by the grace of god they were approved and now finally his dream of his family coming to America and living a better life became a reality. Gelet was a hardworking man when he set his mind to something by god's grace, he was able to achieve it. He worked for Seton Medical Center for 25 years to continue to provide a better life for himself and his family. He was well-respected in the Haitian community for his loyalty,
respectfulness, and his generosity toward others. Gelet was a lover of gospel music, movies, and his favorite meal Haitian FUFU otherwise known as Tonm Tonm.
Gelet leaves behind his wife, his children, his grandchildren, and a Haitian community that all misses him dearly, in loving memory of a hardworking, dream achiever, respected man.
