Gemma A. Lawler

Gemma Lawler, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend to many, passed away on December 23, 2025 at the age of 80. She was the heart of her family and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Born on March 2, 1945 in Astoria, Queens, Gemma lived a life defined by love, generosity, and deep care for others. She was a devoted wife to Jim, her partner in life and love for 50 years. Together they built a home where everyone felt welcome, and where family always came first.
As a mother, Gemma gave endlessly of herself. She was her children's biggest supporter, their comfort in hard times, and their loudest cheerleader in moments of triumph. Becoming a grandmother was one of her greatest joys, and she adored every moment spent with her grandchildren, who brought endless smiles and laughter to her life.
She is survived by her loving husband, Jim; her children, Janine and Jimmy and his wife, Ashleigh; and her grandchildren, James, Brynn, Kieran, and Aila. She was preceded in death by her father, Clement; her mother, Gemma; and her brothers, Louis, Frankie and Michael. Though she is no longer with us, her love and gentle spirit will never be gone from our hearts.
Visitation will take place on Sunday, December 28, 2-5 pm at Applebee McPhillips Funeral Home in Middletown, NY. A service celebrating Gemma's life will be held on Monday, December 29 at 11am at Holy Cross Church in Middletown, NY. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Hospice of Orange & Sullivan County, in her memory.
