Gene Coleman Garrett, age 88 of New Castle passed away Saturday, March 15, 2025. Gene was an Army Veteran. He was a Deacon and Member of the New Castle First Baptist Church. He was a machinist at Brown & Williamson and also worked at Pillsbury/General Mills. He was a volunteer with the New Castle EMS & Fire Dept. for 20 years. He served on on the Henry County Health Department Board; New Castle City Council, New Castle Lions Club & New Castle Cemetery Board. Gene was an avid UK & Nascar Fan. He also enjoyed fishing & coin collecting. Gene took great pride working in his yard & garden. He was the son of the late Lonnie B. & Gladys (Brooks) Garrett. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Betty Lou Garrett and two brothers, James Lloyd & William Bill Garrett.

Daughters: Gina Black (Greg) of New Castle
Sandra McGhee (Tony) of New Castle
Sister: Leeann Powell of Louisville
Grandsons: Garrett Black (Hunter)
Gavin Black (Hannah Phillips)

Funeral Service: 11am Friday, March 21, 2025 at Prewitt New Castle Funeral Home. Officiated by Rev. Jerry Anderson & Rev. Michael Duncan.
Interment: New Castle Cemetery
Memorial Contributions: New Castle First Baptist Church, PO Box 126, New Castle, KY 40050 or Hosparus, 3532 Ephraim McDowell Drive, Louisville, KY 40504.
Visitation: 5 to 8pm Thursday, March 20, 2025 at Prewitt New Castle Funeral Home.
