Gene Hall Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by The Meeks Mortuary & Crematory - Washington Street Chapel on Jan. 29, 2026.
Marion Eugene "Gene" Hall, 90, passed away peacefully on January 27, 2026. He was born on September 28, 1935, in Muncie, Indiana. Gene lived a life marked by service, scholarship, faith, and deep love for family and friends.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents, Marion Francis Hall and Edith (Reed) Hall of Yorktown, IN, his sister, Mary Jo Luce, his son, Michael Hall, and his beloved great-granddaughter, Caida Lee Darland.

A proud patriot, Gene served his country through the Navy Reserve, The United States Marine Corps, and the Army Reserve. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion.

Gene valued education throughout his life. He graduated from Yorktown High School in 1953 and continued his academic journey with an Associate degree from Compton Junior College, a Bachelors from the University of California, Santa Barbara, a Masters from Ball State University and ultimately earned a Doctorate from The Ohio State University. He went on to become a Professor at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois, where he was respected for his dedication to teaching, scholarship, and mentorship.

Above all, Gene loved his family. He found joy in his marriage to his wife, Karen Marie (Butler) Hall, of Columbus IN. Together they built a rich and adventurous life, living in multiple states and countries, creating lasting memories wherever they went. Gene was a wonderful parent, grandpa and great grandpa.

Gene had a rare gift for connecting with people - he made friends everywhere he went. A devoted Christian he lived his faith through kindness, generosity, and a genuine desire to help others. His warmth, intellect, and gentle spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife, Karen, his daughters Linda Lantana, Pamela Gielow, and Jennifer Hall, his sisters Rebecca Wallen of Johnston City, IL, and Judy Wheatley (Charles), of Lancaster, OH, eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren; along with many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m on Monday, February 2, 2026, at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Mt. Pleasant Chapel, 7901 W. Isanogel Rd. with Military Rites conducted by The United States Marine Corps and the Veterans of Delaware County. Private burial will take place in Hawk Cemetery, Yorktown.
