Gene "Goubi" Marshall Lane, aged 60, of Mishawaka, IN, passed away unexpectedly on April 7, 2025. Born on February 4, 1965, to the late John and
Judy (Parrott) Lane, Gene grew up with the passion and vigor he would carry with him throughout his life.
Gene carried the fiery spirit of his youth into a hardworking professional life. He dedicated a 28-year career to R&L Carriers, where his commitment to his work
was evident every day. Gene found joy and happiness in his most recent career at Julie's Used Appliances. His colleagues remember him for his work ethic,
loyalty, friendship, and his sense of humor.
Gene's animated personality extended beyond his work. He was a man with an extraordinary thrill for life and a passion for the automotive world. His valued
1970 Plymouth Roadrunner Satellite and his 1992 GMC Trophy Truck were his pride and joy, winning him multiple first place trophies at local car shows. A
collector at heart, Gene treasured his diecast cars, a testament to his admiration for the craft and nostalgia of automobiles. His enthusiasm for speed took him to
numerous drag races, engaging in the thrilling spectacle of the sport. No matter where he was in life, he made sure he was the loudest and the fastest.
Music moved Gene's soul, he was an avid fan of rock 'n roll and heavy metal, especially his favorite band Led Zeppelin. His creative spirit found another outlet
in motorcycles, a hobby that involved both riding and building, celebrating his love for engineering and the open road. He had a variety of motorcycles
throughout his life, but his all-time favorite was his Blue Suzuki GS 1100. He loved to spend many of his days in his garage hanging out with friends.
There was never a dull moment when Gene was in the room. He was a very colorful storyteller, he could make anyone laugh within seconds. No matter the
subject or time of day, he was always fun to talk to. He also carried a lifelong attention to detail that he learned by watching his late grandfather Pat Parrott.
Every aspect of his life was well organized and meticulously cleaned.
Gene's legacy is lovingly cherished by his son Carter Lane, his daughter Allie Dobski, his girlfriend of ten years Kimberly Ingle, his cherished grandchildren,
Jackson McDonald and Daisy Smith; his sister Andrea Lane; his brother Patrick (Tara) Taylor; his loving cousins, Julie (Gerry) Schrader, and Jill (Jimmy)
VandeWalle; and his best friends Jimmy, Tommy, Chucky, Calvin, and Kent. Gene was preceded in death by his brother Michael Lane.
The family would like to send special thanks to the team at the Memorial Hospital Intensive Care Unit, who cared for Gene throughout the final stage of
his life. The paramedics who took every action possible to save him; as well as his team at Julie's Used Appliances: Julie, Gary, Amy, Chelsey, Russell, and
Daniel.
A celebration of life memorial will be held on Monday, April 14, 2025, from 4-7 p.m at Palmer Funeral Home – Bubb Chapel, 3910 N. Main St. Mishawaka, IN
