Gene Waggoner, 79 year old Woodward business man passed Thursday, November 13, 2025. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Monday, November 17, 2025 in the Woodward Church of the Nazarene. Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery with the Billings Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Elmer "Eugene" Waggoner was born on November 29, 1945 in Woodward, Oklahoma the son of Elmer Eugene and Roberta Irene (Lehman) Waggoner. He grew up in Woodward, attended Woodward schools and graduated from Woodward High School. Eugene was united in marriage to Marilyn Louthan on April 23, 1966 in Seiling, Oklahoma. They made their first home in Sharon, before moving to Woodward. They were blessed with two children Machelle and Jeff.
In his early years he worked for his grandpa Lehman who owned Oscars Market in Woodward. He started his electrical career with Smith Plumbing and Electric, he then worked for John Bruce Electric. Eugene then started his own company Waggoner Electric. He also owned and operated "Marilyn's The Final Touch" a gift shop with his wife Marilyn for many years.
Around 1993 Eugene found BBQ to be his passion, he would BBQ outside on his parking lot and thats when he decided to start a BBQ to go soon turning into the restaurant Wagg's BBQ.
Eugene loved spending time with his family. He loved traveling to Santa Fe, New Mexico shopping for art work for Wagg's BBQ. He had a passion for his employees at Wagg's and always considered them a part of his family.
Eugene served in the United States Army 95th. He was a member of the Woodward Church of the Nazarene. He served on the Sharon-Mutual School Board and also the Woodward School Board.
Eugene is survived by his daughter, Machelle Steuart and husband Barry of Tulsa; son, Jeff Waggoner and wife Alisha of Woodward; grandchildren, Barrett Steuart and wife Elizabeth of Bixby; Haylee Steuart of Tulsa; Hayden Steuart and fiance Chloe Clark of Bixby; Saylor Waggoner; and Trent Waggoner both of Woodward; great-granddaughter, Ellie Steuart of Bixby; sister, Kathy Coons; brother, Ronnie Waggoner and wife Charlotte; brother-in-law Verl Louthan and wife Judy; several nieces, nephews, other family and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife Marilyn Waggoner; parents Elmer and Roberta Waggoner; one sister Joyce Waggoner; brother Jerry Waggoner; brother-in-law Lynn Coons; sister-in-law Zeta Waggoner; mother and father in law Howard and Lila Louthan sister-in-law Joan Ray and husband Stewart Ray.
In lieu of flowers the family ask that memorials be made to the Woodward Public Schools meal program with the funeral home accepting the contributions.
