George Solomon Alakel Jr., age 88, of North Andover, and formerly of
Salem, NH, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 6, 2026, with his devoted and loving family by his side. Born in Lawrence in 1937, he was the son of the late George S. Alakel Sr. and Jennie Alakel.
George was a proud graduate of Central Catholic High School, Class of 1955. He met the love of his life, Grace L. (Coco) Alakel on the sands of Salisbury Beach. They married in 1959 and had a remarkable 66 years of marriage filled with unwavering partnership, laughter, adventure, and a deep love that was evident to all who knew them.
George built a long and successful career as an accountant, retiring from Dow Chemical. Even after retirement, his sharp mind and curiosity kept him engaged in the stock market, where he enjoyed following trends and staying involved in the financial world.
George loved the beach and spent many happy years as a snowbird in Florida. A loyal Boston sports fan, he cheered for all the hometown teams, though the Red Sox always held a special place in his heart. He loved cooking for his family, especially traditional Lebanese dishes that brought everyone together around the table.
Above all, George was a devoted family man known for his steady presence and kind heart. Being a grandfather was one of his greatest joys. He was deeply proud of his grandchildren and treasured every moment spent with them.
He loved traveling the world alongside Grace, creating memories together that became stories the family will always hold close. He found joy playing golf later in life, and he never passed up the chance to visit a casino or sit down for a good card game with friends and family.
George is survived by his loving children, John G. Alakel and his wife Annmarie, and Tracy A. Brousseau and her husband Raymond. He was the cherished grandfather (Jido) of Nicholas and his wife Charlotte, Frank, Justin and his fiancée Eva, and Megan. He will also be deeply missed by several nieces, nephews, and dear friends who were touched by his warmth and kindness.
In addition to his parents, George was predeceased by his brothers Michael Alakel and his wife Doris, and Richard Alakel.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Langdon Place of Nashua and Brookhaven Hospice for the compassionate care they provided to George.
Per the request of the family and to honor the wishes of George, all services will be private.
