George Richard "Dick" Ayles, age 81, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, in Newport, Maine. Dick was born and raised in Lynn, Massachusetts, the eldest son of the late Leo Vincent and Dorothy (Cunningham) Vincent. He graduated from Lynn English High School in 1962. From 1966 to 1971, he served in the Army National Guard, earning medals as a sharpshooter.
He spent 37 years at General Electric, first as an assembler/tester in the Turbine Division and later as an Advanced Aircraft Engine Mechanic/Inspector. After retiring in 2000, he built a beautiful home on the lake in Newport, Maine, where he lived with his beloved wife of 57 years, Mary (Kirkorian) Ayles. They cherished their time on the lake, whether boating, snowmobiling with friends, or simply enjoying the view from their hammock. Beyond his love for the outdoors, Dick was an avid reader who enjoyed crossword puzzles, cribbage, and Scrabble. He had a remarkable ability to build or fix anything, often teaching himself new skills from books. Above all, he adored his grandchildren and never hesitated to make the three-hour drive from Maine to support them in their many activities.
A devoted husband, father, and "Gump," Dick was the heart of his family. He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Brian and by his sister, Mary Ruth. He is survived by his son, Scott Ayles, and his daughter-in-law Michelle Ayles, of Peabody; his cherished grandchildren, Megan Ayles and Brady Ayles, also of Peabody; his sister, Alice Cornacchia, and her husband, Robert Cornacchia, of Keller, Texas; and his brother-in-law, James Ruth, of Epping, New Hampshire. He was also a loving uncle to Michael Ruth of Marblehead, Douglas Ruth and his wife, Maria Ruth, of Hampton, New Hampshire, and Steven Cornacchia and Kevin Cornacchia of Keller, Texas.
Dick will be forever remembered as an easygoing, fun-loving, and humble man who was deeply loved by many.
