George Brewton Obituary
Taylor Funeral Home of Louisville announces the death and funeral services for George R. Brewton, 88, of Louisville, Georgia, who died July 15, 2024. A Requiem Eucharist and Celebration of Life will be held at the St. Mary Magdalene Episcopal Church, 321 W 7th Street, Louisville, Georgia on the 3rd of August at 1:00. The Rev. Sonya Clifton is the celebrant.
He was preceded in death by his wife Liz Brewton, son Marc Brewton, parents Lloyd and Martha Brewton, and brother Lloyd Clifford Brewton.
He is survived by his brother Edward Brewton (Madelyn), son George Brewton (Samantha Cox) and daughters Robin Walker and Terri Degenhardt (Walter); grandchildren Kellie Riddle (Kelly), Brooke Maner (Matt), Walker Watson, and Amanda Degenhardt, as well as many nieces and nephews.
George moved to Louisville in the 5th grade and graduated from Louisville Academy. He later graduated from the University of Georgia School of Pharmacy. George spent the majority of his career as a pharmacist with Jefferson Hospital. He was a founding member of St. Mary Magdalene Episcopal Church, where he actively served in many capacities including Junior and Senior Warden on the Vestry and as a Eucharistic Lay Minister.
Liz and George were an active part of the community and made many friends while refurbishing the historic Little House. His passion was riding his bike, and he was often seen riding around town. His first long-distance ride was to Savannah, Georgia, on his old beach bike which sparked his desire to master longer rides. He rode across Georgia with BRAG (Bike Ride Across Georgia), and took longer rides from Maine to Orlando and from Louisville to Ohio.
George loved to have fun and bring people joy. Many have already guessed that he was responsible for the fairy doors that appeared around town. He made each door by hand, crafting them to represent an aspects of the person or business receiving one. George's smile was infectious, and he loved to tell stories, to cook and eat good food, to "wax philosophical," and to enjoy a libation on his porch.
The family is grateful for Mary Johnson who oversaw George's care at home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Mary Magdalene Episcopal Church's Brown Bethea Brewton Scholarship for students attending technical college. Donations should be made to the St. Mary Magdalene Outreach Fund.
