George Burlison Browning

George Burlison Browning, 92, of Melbourne has passed away and joined his Lord Jesus Christ in heaven.
He is survived by his children, Ginny, Tricia (Vern), Kevin, Colleen (Jim); eight grandchildren; eight great grandchildren and his brother Jay (Sandra).
George was born November 17, 1931 in Sebastian, Florida to Burleigh Alvison and Dorothy Browning. He married the love of his life Jeannine Brown in Webster, Florida on June 28, 1953. He graduated from the University of Florida and practiced pharmacy most of his adult life. He served in the United States Army for 2 years, being stationed in Italy and Austria. George and Jeannine eventually settled in Melbourne where they raised their family. He opened Medical Arts Pharmacy across from the hospital. George was smart, determined, goal oriented and used his extraordinary work ethic to provide his family with a comfortable life.
George worshipped with his church family at First United Methodist and played an active role in many areas of the church including youth counselor, Paris and Spares Sunday School class and as a trustee involved in building expansions to name a few. Many lifelong friends were made there.
During his time in Melbourne, he consistently continued to expand and grow his business, Browning's Pharmacy and Health Care, until his retirement. The business is still a staple of the community, now owned by his daughter Colleen Hunter and her husband Jim.
George was involved in political issues involving pharmacy and was a member of the Florida Pharmaceutical Association serving as its president twice. Many of his closest friends, some from his college days, were also pharmacists running family businesses of their own and worked with George as members of the FPA.
George had a deep love and give back to the University of Florida, it's college of pharmacy and his beloved Florida Gators football team.
During his life George enjoyed travel abroad, classical music, jogging, tennis, scuba diving and spending time at the family cattle ranch in Webster.
George was always generous, genuine, sympathetic, humorous and quick to smile. He was a people person and loved interacting with his customers and employees. He will be deeply missed by his entire family and his friends. George has left an indelible mark on this world and left it a better place. It is hard to sum up a life as full as George's within a few paragraphs of typed copy, but it is our wish that his memory and legacy live on in the hearts and memories of those that knew him.
His funeral service is at 2 pm on Thursday, July 18, 2024 at First Church Melbourne, 110 E. New Haven Avenue. Burial will on Friday, July 19, 2024 at 11 am in Garden of Memories, Webster, Florida with his beloved Jeannine. In honor of George's education and lifelong dedication to the University of Florida, please consider wearing Gator blue and Gator orange.
