George "Bill" Burrows

October 21, 1930 - February 21, 2025

Former State Senator George "Bill" Burrows, passed away peacefully at his home on February 21, 2025. Born in Adams, Neb. on October 21, 1930, to Chase and Blanche (Graves) Burrows, Bill lived a full life of 94 years. Bill attended school first at the Independence Rural School, graduated from Adams High School in 1948, attend Nebraska Wesleyan, and received his bachelor's degree from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln in 1953. He was a longtime resident of Adams, he was known for his supportive nature and his dedication to helping others, a quality that was central to his life and work.

Bill and Norma Conneally were married on December 26, 1953, He served his country in the United States Army, serving for 16 months in Korea. A farmer by trade, Bill was an active member of the agricultural community, serving in several organizations including the Farmers Home Administration, Nebraska FSA, Landrace Hog Organization, and as a vet ag instructor. His dedication to his work and the community did not go unnoticed. He served two terms in the Nebraska State Legislature from 1974-1982, further demonstrating his unwavering commitment to public service. Bill was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church in Adams and spent his leisure time playing cards, bridge, watching sports, and taking care of his rentals. His greatest joy, however, was being an advocate for the less fortunate.

Bill leaves behind a legacy of love and generosity. He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Norma; their children, Greg (Doretta) Burrows, Mark (Cheryl) Burrows, and Laureen (Roger) Ehmen; their grandchildren, B.J. (Kristy) Burrows, Andy (Jordan) Burrows, Lyndsey and Grant Ehmen; and by six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Chase and Blanche Burrows; his sisters, Dorothy (Clyde) Young and Roberta (Norman) Schmid; and his son, Jay Burrows.

There will be no viewing as cremation has taken place, but his spirit will be celebrated with a public visitation from 12 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, February 26, 2025, at the Griffiths-Hovendick Chapel in Adams. The family will greet friends Wednesday from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the same venue. A family prayer service will be held Thursday at 10:45 a.m. followed by the celebration of his life at 11 a.m. on Thursday, February 27, at the United Methodist Church in Adams. The service will be livestreamed at www.ghchapel.com. Military honors will be provided by the United State Army at the church. Interment of his ashes will be in the Highland Cemetery at a later date. A memorial has been established to the Adams United Methodist Church with the funeral home in charge.
