George Clifford Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Kaatz Funeral Directors – Hamilton-Groesbeck Chapel - Mt. Clemens on Sep. 21, 2025.

George Ronald Clifford, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, friend, and proud United States Marine, passed away peacefully on September 19, 2025, at the age of 84. He was surrounded by his beloved family.

Born on February 18, 1941, Skip lived a life marked by service, devotion, and love. He served four years in the United States Marine Corps, carrying with him the discipline, courage, and spirit that would define the rest of his life.

On February 6, 1965, Skip married the love of his life, Dolores I. Carrig. Together they created and adored a family that he was ever so proud of.

Skip was a hardworking man who had many jobs and skills throughout the years. After his military service, he worked as a mechanic for a family-owned gas station. From there, he went on to join both the Laborers and Carpenters Unions, where he put much of his knowledge to use. He also drove an 18-wheeler and worked in construction. There wasn't much he couldn't do-he was a man of many talents.

Starting a family may have been his greatest accomplishment, and one he was most proud of. As a devoted husband and father, he was a steady presence-always there to guide, protect, and support his family. His hands were rarely still, whether fixing, building, or lending his skills to others. A natural handyman, he had a gift for turning broken pieces into something whole again-a reflection of the way he cared for those around him.

In later years, he found joy in being "Papa," sharing stories, wisdom, and memories that will live on in the hearts of his grandchildren and family.

He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Dolores; Cindy's husband Steve Vogelsong; daughters, Lisa (Bobby) Moss, and Sue (Ross) Valentine; grandchildren, Tracy (Justin) Hanson, Alycia (David) Owens, Shane (Courtney) Johnson, Austin (Hannah) Melton, Donovan and Brady Valentine; great-grandchildren, Ellie Hanson, Madelyn, Andrew and Abigail Owens, Lexi and Valerie Johnson, Ava and Aubree Melton; and his brother-in-law, Robert (Geraldine) Williams. His family will forever carry his legacy of strength, loyalty, and love.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George B. and Magdalen (Bohm) Clifford; a daughter, Cynthia Vogelsong and his sisters, Virginia (Albert) King, Dorothy (Gerald) Majer, June (Harold) Barnes, Shirley (Arthur) Bosco, and Geraldine (Robert) Williams.

He was passionate not only about his family but also about many hobbies. He enjoyed years of hunting duck, pheasant, and deer-bonding with many family members and friends along the way. He also spent time fishing and boating, woodworking, and-maybe most importantly….cutting his grass! He could always be found on his tractor maintaining his pristine lawn. He was proud of it and received compliments from many neighbors and passersby. People would often honk as they drove by, offering a friendly hello or an "atta boy."

The family honors the memory of Skip and invites you to visit and share memories on Friday, September 26, 2025, from 2:00–8:00 p.m. with a remembrance service held at 6:30 p.m. at Kaatz Funeral Directors, Mt. Clemens.
