Mary Merita Watts, 70, of Clinton Township, passed away peacefully on the evening of September 15, 2025, surrounded by her beloved family after courageously battling cancer.

Born in Detroit, Michigan, Mary dedicated nearly three decades to the family business, Patmai, from 1973 to 2002. In 2002, she relocated to Madisonville, Tennessee, where she served as Director of Kids Care from 2004 to 2013, touching countless young lives with her compassionate care. While living in Madisonville, Mary was a member of the Bethlehem Baptist Church and a past member of the Eastern Stars. In 2015, she returned to her hometown in Michigan to be closer to the family she treasured so deeply.

Mary, lovingly known as Rita, Grandma, Mimi, and Gigi, was the embodiment of hard work, compassion, and unconditional love. To know her was to love her-she had the remarkable gift of making everyone in her presence feel like family. She consistently put others before herself, earning her the reputation as a dear friend to all. True to Mary's nurturing nature, she ensured that no one ever went hungry when she was around.

In her leisure time, Mary enjoyed ghost hunting and horror movies, delighted in watching everyone's children grow, found peace in crocheting, cherished quality time with family, and loved working on puzzles. Her gentle hands and generous heart created warmth wherever she went.

Mary's legacy of love, kindness, and selflessness will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

Surviving are three children, Ranee Tabor of Clinton Township, Tommie (Ashley) Watts of Greer, SC, and Lindsay Watts of Clinton Township; grandchildren, Michael and Amanda Tabor, Destini, Lincoln, and Monroe Watts; a great-grandchild, Kash Watts; siblings, Edwin (Charlene) Mattox, Bret Mattox, Kim (Lori) Mattox, and Damita (Terry) Peters; as well as her loving dog, Zoey.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Eula Mattox.

The family honors the memory of Mary and invites you to visit and share memories Sunday, September 21, 2025, from 12:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Kaatz Funeral Directors, Mt. Clemens. Funeral services will begin at 4:00 p.m. Rev. Del Ward will officiate.
