George G. DeYoung, age 70, passed away Thursday, July 13, surrounded by his family at Lahey Hospital. He was the beloved husband of 48 years to Janet Rose (O'Connell) DeYoung. He was born in Waltham, June 24, 1953, a son of the late George A. and Marie C. (Bianchino) DeYoung. George grew up in Littleton then Somerville before moving to Billerica 37 years ago to raise his family.
George was a 50-year member of IBEW Local 103 where he continued his family legacy of being a union electrician. He loved riding his Harley Davidson, attending the annual Bike Week celebrations in Laconia, and playing Keno with all his friends. He also enjoyed boating, both in the Lakes Region of New Hampshire and on the Intercoastal in Pompano Beach.
In addition to his wife, George is survived by his children, Marc DeYoung and his wife Amy of Dracut, Jennifer DeYoung of Wilmington, and Scott DeYoung and his wife Renee of Billerica. George's three sisters, Catherine Vallesio and her husband Louis of Littleton, Diane Ghilain and her husband John of Malden, and Mary Alice Davis and her husband John of Methuen; his brothers-in-law Brian Walsh and Frank Morgan. He was the beloved brother of the late Theresa Walsh and Lynn Morgan.
George's pride and joy were his seven grandchildren, Cameron, Payton, Dylan, Colin, Connor, Brynn, and Kylee.
George was also the loving son-in-law to the late John and Lois O'Connell of Charlestown, brother-in-law to Steven O'Connell, Christine and Larry Kane, and Edward and Darlene O'Connell.
George was beloved by many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends with whom he shared many loving memories.
Visiting hours will be on Sunday, July 16, at the Sweeney Memorial Funeral Home, 66 Concord Rd., Billerica from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held Monday, July 17, at St. Matthew the Evangelist Parish in St. Theresa Church, 466 Boston Rd., Billerica at 10:00 a.m. Burial in Fox Hill Cemetery, Billerica. Relatives and friends respectfully invited. In lieu of flowers, please donate to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. www.stjude.org

George was a patron of an establishment in which I worked. He was always a gentleman, polite, courteous and humorous. It was always a pleasure to see him come through the door. The world would be a better place if there were more people like him.
