George Randall East, a cherished father, veteran, and pillar of the Alexander City community, passed away peacefully on November 11, 2025, at the age of 77. Born on May 29, 1948, in Lanett, Alabama.
George is lovingly remembered by his daughter, Janet East Claybrook and her husband Robbie; his former spouse, Sarah Heard East; his sister, Doris Jean Reynolds; his special cousin, Kathy Lashley and her husband David; his niece and nephews, Lori Patterson and her husband Jimbo, Steve Martin and his wife Mellisa, Kevin Martin and his wife Carrie, and Josh Reynolds; and a host of cousins, great nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, George East; his mother, Frances Champion Pless; his sister, Rita Martin; his brothers-in-law, Wayne Martin and Larry Reynolds; and his nephew, Alan Martin.
George's professional life was marked by his unwavering commitment to his community as an electrical lineman. His career culminated in his role as the Superintendent of Alexander City Lights and Power Department, where he retired after many years of faithful and dedicated service. His colleagues remember him as a man of integrity who led by example and always put the needs of the community first.
A proud US Marine Corps veteran, George served his country during the Vietnam War. His bravery and sacrifice were recognized with numerous commendations, including the prestigious Purple Heart. George's love for his country was matched only by his love for his family. He was a selfless and generous man, always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
George's interests were as diverse as they were passionate. He adored his family, cherishing every moment spent with them. His pets held a special place in his heart, and he was known to spoil them with affection. George's candid nature, often described as having "No Filter," endeared him to many and ensured that time spent in his company was filled with honesty and laughter.
To describe George as selfless and generous would only scratch the surface of the man he was. His actions spoke volumes, and his legacy is one of kindness, courage, and an unwavering commitment to others. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
