George Joseph Evans George Joseph Evans passed away peacefully in the arms of his mother before leaving to be with the Lord on Sept. 22, 2025, after a courageous fight against colon cancer. Up until the end George maintained his kindness, compassion and love for his large family and many friends. George was born in Belleville, IL, on July 5, 1977, and was adopted at five days old. He was the son of Barbara Ann Sevier-Clark and Vernon Carl Evans. He is survived by his parents and stepfather Charles D. Clark. Growing up George lived in Illinois and other locations, including St. Louis, MO., Lawton, OK and Blanchard, OK, before settling in
Durant, OK. He loved traveling and drove almost every holiday season to be with family, sometimes in three different states. He had dreams of traveling west to see landscapes he had not been to before and was making plans with his dad for when he felt better. He attended public schools in New Athens, IL, and graduated from the Red Bud school system. Growing up he was a Cub Scout. His mother took him horseback riding, canoeing and fishing. He and his dad were fans of wrestling on TV. He was a lifelong fan of Star Wars. He played with hundreds of dollars in toys as a child brought home by his mother who hit the jackpot at a garage sale, and in his final months reading title after title of the latest Star Wars novels. He shared books and a love of reading with his mother, especially by authors Tom Clancy and Stephen King. A Christian, George also studied The Holy Bible. As a true fan, George could talk about any sport. He played fantasy football and rarely missed his favorite team on TV, the Pittsburgh Steelers. He also attended many games with his dad of both the Steelers and the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team. George was known as someone who could eat anything, until while working at Whole Foods, he developed an allergy to shellfish. But that did not stop him from preparing many exotic and healthy dishes in the kitchen. He began collecting cookbooks and started working his way through them all, trying out almost every recipe at least once. Most of all, George was a salesman, primarily working with Casco Industries in Oklahoma City outfitting firefighters across the state with protective gear and equipment. In Durant, he had started a career with U.S. Cellular. He had friends that kept in touch from everywhere he worked and even as far back as high school. George was a walking encyclopedia of many aspects of pop culture, especially heavy metal rock music. People loved having him on their team during Trivia Nights at Lost Street Brewing Company. His musical knowledge carried over into meeting band members and finding other fans online from around the world. After he became ill, bands and their fans sent him cards, newly released albums, official caps and tee shirts, and texted and phoned him regularly. He particularly became close with fans of the band Clutch. Hundreds in the "Clutch Family" offered George encouragement, even raising thousands of dollars in assistance. George leaves behind a brother, Vernon James Evans, his wife Katie, their children Madeleine, and Alexander Danks, Chrisopher Danks and Isabella Danks, all of Hollis, OK; an uncle Greg Evans and his wife Kathy of Finleyville, PA.; aunts Jimmie Tachick of Soldotna, AK and Ina Elizabeth Robertson of Lawton OK; stepbrother Christian Clark, his wife Carla and their children Caitlin and Cassius, of Tulsa, OK. Preceding him in death were his stepmother Jimmie Evans, an uncle Charles Sevier, and aunts Betty Diane Sevier and Paula Sevier. George never married or had children, but cherished his family and friends, keeping in close touch until he lost the ability to talk. His Mama, as he called her, left her job to take care of him full-time. Hardly leaving his side after he was diagnosed; they made his journey together. George had many wonderful caregivers along the way including Brooke Decker-Walters, UT Southwestern in Dallas, Carrus Hospital in Sherman, Guardian Home Health and Victory Hospice of Durant. The family would like in lieu of flowers for donations be made to Victory Hospice or the American Colon Cancer Research Foundation. A Memorial Visitation will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 26, 2025, at Brown's Funeral Home in Durant. Family and friends also will meet at the base of Mount Scott in the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, 2025, for another service. Arrangements are under the direction of Brown's Durant Funeral and Cremation Services.
