GEORGE MICHAEL GURCH, of Wilmington, DE, sadly passed away on September 29, 2025 at the age of 56, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and passion for both his work and personal interests.
Born in Mt. Ephraim, NJ, he was the beloved son of the late George and Jeanne (née DeGuiseppe) Gurch, and grandson of the late Gene and Ida DeGuiseppe and Lillian and Marion Gurch. George was the loving cousin to Gale Harvey Gant and Tom Gant; Gary and Beverly Harvey; as well as many other cousins – Sparacio; Guiseppe; Battilana; Verlander; Falco; Fornias; Hance; Anastasi. George will also fondly be remembered by his many work colleagues and friends.
George spent a significant portion of his professional life engaging in various industries before he decided to return to school in his 30s. Growing up in the hair salon and barbershop industries, his career later expanded into warehousing, shipping, beverage delivery services, and high security electronics equipment transportation. This foundation laid the groundwork for his subsequent education at the Universal Technical Institute in Exton, Pennsylvania, where he graduated and accepted into a prestigious Ford Motor Company-sponsored training program known as "Ford F.A.C.T." George earned an impressive twelve certifications in various systems of vehicles equipped with PowerStroke 6.0 and 7.3 liter diesel engines.
After completing his training, George worked diligently as a heavy-duty truck technician for several Ford Dealerships. He then brought his expertise to the Delaware Department of Transportation, where he maintained and repaired a fleet of Ford Van chassis Paratransit busses fitted with wheelchair lifts. . In 2012, George became a Customer Service Supervisor at Turn5, Inc., where he excelled in developing successful teams and fostering an environment of growth and support among his colleagues. Turn5 was more than just a workplace for George; it was a family where he derived great satisfaction from mentoring new employees who advanced to supervisor and management roles.
Outside of his professional endeavors, George nurtured a lifelong passion for automobiles. He fondly recalled spending countless hours as a young child listening to his father's stories about the more than forty cars he had owned throughout his life, each one filled with excitement and memories. An avid reader of HOTROD and other automotive magazines during the 70s and 80s, he spent his high school years cruising local hangouts and even dabbling in street racing. A true muscle car aficionado, he proudly owned a 1965 Plymouth Satellite and a 2010 Mustang GT, always emphasizing the importance of aesthetics in his vehicles, ensuring they looked as magnificent as those featured in his cherished magazines.
In addition to cars, George had an equal passion for music. He enjoyed playing, building, and refurbishing guitars, and amassed a collection of rare amplifiers and vintage effects pedals. Music truly enriched George's life, serving as another medium through which he expressed his creativity and found joy.
Through his enduring work ethic and unwavering passions, George made a significant impact on those around him. He will be fondly remembered for his contributions to his career, his enthusiasm for cars, and his dedication to music. His legacy will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Family and friends are invited to George’s Visitation on Saturday, October 11, 2025, 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at The Donohue Funeral Home, 3300 West Chester Pike, Newtown Square, PA 19073. Interment private.
