George Hydrick Obituary
George Robert Hydrick, 88, of Utopia, Texas, passed away surrounded by loved ones on September 14, 2025. He was born on February 25, 1937, in Corpus Christi, Texas, to Walter and Josie Hydrick.
On December 6, 1955, George married the love of his life, Patricia Ann “Patti” Blackmon, in Beeville, Texas. Together they built a life full of family, faith, and service.
George proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy Reserve and later became a successful business owner of Marine Propeller & Machine Works Inc in Aransas Pass, Texas. Upon retiring George worked tirelessly turning a cedar thicket into a beautiful cattle ranch.
He was a devoted member of Christian Men’s Breakfast, a greeter and usher at Living Waters Outreach in Utopia, and a member of Temple of Praise in Aransas Pass. George was known for his faith, his generosity, and his willingness to help anyone in need.
His hobbies and passions included raising cattle, hunting, fishing, camping, operating his skid loader, watching old westerns, and making blue ribbon ice cream. Some of his favorite memories included camping, squirrel hunting in Junction, Texas, and elk hunting in Colorado.
George was preceded in death by his parents Walter and Josie, and his son-in-law John Werchan.
He is survived by his beloved wife Patti Blackmon Hydrick; children, Holly Werchan, Mark Hydrick and his wife Darcy; Grandchildren, Russ Hydrick, Kelli Coates (Ralston), Chelsey Werchan, Colleen Ziperovich (Tommy), and Rachel Hartwick (Landon); Great-grandchildren, Ethan Brymer, Callum Hartwick, Hadlee Ann Hartwick and Madden Hartwick; Brother, Conrad Lionel Hydrick; Nephews, James and Tom; Sister in law, Sarah Shugart; Nephews, Stacy Monte, Kacy and Shay. His legacy also lives on through countless friends.
George’s greatest joy in life was his family, his faith, and the simple pleasure of helping others. He will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his devotion to his church and community, and his unwavering love for those around him.
A Celebration of Life to honor George will be held at 2pm on October 4, 2025, at Charlie Marshall Funeral Home in Aransas Pass, Texas.
A second Celebration of Life will be held at Living Waters Church in Utopia, Texas, at 2pm on October 25, 2025.
