George Karger, a devoted husband, and father passed away on Sunday, May 26, 2024, at Mercy Regional Medical Center at the age of 80. Born on May 9, 1944, in Cleveland, Ohio, to George and Bernice (nee McKenna) Karger, George lived a life marked by dedication, hard work, and a deep love for his family.
George graduated from Our Lady of Lourdes High School in 1962 and soon after enlisted in the United States Army. He served his country honorably until his discharge in September 1965. Following his military service, George embarked on a career in the Tool and Die Industry and pursued further education in electronics. His strong work ethic and commitment to self-improvement led him to roles at Alcoa and later to earning a Master's Degree, Magna cum laude in Accounting from Tri-C and Cleveland State University, all while continuing to work.
Over the years, George built a diverse career, contributing his skills and expertise to National City Bank, Lake Terminal Railroad, the American Shipyards, and American Greetings. He also served as a Federal Credit Union Examiner, showcasing his versatility and dedication to his profession.
Beyond his professional life, George found joy in playing golf, cheering for his favorite sports teams, and tending to his yard. His passions were a testament to his vibrant personality and love for the simple pleasures in life.
George is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Rosemarie (nee Galbraith); his son, Gregory; and his brothers, Robert (Carol) Karger and Allen (Cindy) Karger. He was preceded in death by his son, Christopher Karger, and his parents, Geroge and Bernice.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, June 5, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at The Catholic Church of St. Peter, 3655 Oberlin Ave., Lorain, Ohio, with Rev. Father Craig Hovanec, Pastor, officiating. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
Contributions may be made in memory of George to the APL, American Cancer Society, or To St. Peter's School scholarship program.
George's legacy of hard work, dedication, and love for his family will be remembered by all who knew him. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.dovinreberjones.com.
