George Morris Keen III "Bud" passed away peacefully at home on August 16, 2024, at age 94. He was surrounded by his wife "Betsy" of 56 years and his three daughters Elizabeth Hartz, Laura Keen Server and Jennifer Herbert.
Bud was born on June 22, 1930, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He attended Bucknell University where he received a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1952. Later he attended Pitt University attaining a MBA, and went on to have a long career as a senior sales engineer for both Armco and Contech Steel Companies. A natural engineer, he found joy in knowing how things worked, fixing what was broken and restoring things to perfection.
Bud loved life and loved his friends. He was steadfast and loyal. He was active in many civic organizations including The Virginia Beach Rotary Club, Hampton Roads Engineers Club, The Virginia Beach Sports Club, and Khedive Shrine Organization. He was a long standing member of Galilee Episcopal Church and the Cavalier Golf and Yacht Club. In addition to golf, he was a passionate skier, enjoyed bowling and old cars, particularly his 1962 Oldsmobile affectionately known as "Big Red." As a member of the Antique Automobile Club of America he participated in drives and car shows around Hampton Roads. Nothing thrilled him more than sharing his favorite sports or hobbies with his friends and family.
A talented musician, Bud enjoyed a lifelong love of music. He played the saxophone his entire life. In his later years, music became his primary focus, performing around town with the Hampton Roads Metro Band as well as the Shrine Band.
He was a proud husband and father and he never failed to acknowledge the accomplishments of his wife and daughters. He is survived by his wife Elizabeth "Betsy" Keen and his three children; Elizabeth Hartz (Kevin), Laura Keen Server (Joshua), and Jennifer Herbert (Jack). As a grandparent late in life, Papa loved his five grandchildren; Elias Keen Server (17), Vera Hartz (16), John Hartz (10), Lydia Hartz (10), and Henry Herbert (4). He was preceded in death by his parents George and Dorothy Keen of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and his Brother William Keen of Sarasota, Florida.
A funeral will be held on August 22, 2024, at 1:00 pm at Galilee Episcopal Church.

We will miss Bud greatly in the Shrine Band. It was a true pleasure knowing him for all the years I was a member with him.

With prayers to the Keen family, Kevin Gilbert
