Funeral services for George M. Kirby Sr., age 83, of Ogdensburg, will be held on Tuesday April 9, 2024 at 5:00PM at Frary Funeral Home & Cremation Services with Valerie Testani officiating. Interment will be in Oswegatchie Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 3:00PM to 5:00PM prior to the funeral at Frary Funeral Home. A gathering will be held at the Elks Lodge from 5:30PM to 7:00PM.
Mr. Kirby passed away on Thursday, April 4, 2024, at Claxton Hepburn Medical Center.
George is survived by his companion Sally Miller, two sons, George Kirby Jr. and his wife, Alysha, and Brian Kirby and his wife, Leslie, all of Ogdensburg, NY; three daughters, Coralee Barrett and her husband, Timothy, of Ogdensburg, NY, Lori Elliott and her husband, Lewis, of Lisbon, NY and Cheryl Pray and her husband, Rod, of De Peyster, NY; siblings, Steven Kirby and his wife, Paula, of Ogdensburg, NY, Randall Kirby of Ogdensburg, NY, Richard Kirby and his wife, Jane, of Texas, Scott Kirby and his wife, Colleen, of Battle Creek, Michigan; Bonnie Sloan and her husband, Lyle, of Heuvelton, NY, Christine Simmons of De Kalb, NY and Dawn Simmons of Ogdensburg, NY; grandchildren; great grandchildren; a brother in law Richard Dings and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. George is predeceased by his parents, Spencer and Marjorie Kirby and a brother, John Kirby, in 2007.
George was born on December 12, 1940, in Ogdensburg, NY, the son of the late Spencer M. and Marjorie E. (Morris) Kirby. He graduated from Morristown Central School. George married Lucina M. Dings on February 16, 1980, at the home of Lucina's sister. She predeceased him on June 3, 2016. George owned and operated Kirby's Garage on the Heuvelton Road for fifty years until his retirement and passing of the family business.
