George J. Kummet, 77-year-old resident of Pierz, MN passed away Wednesday, October 15, 2025 at Essentia Health St. Joseph's Medical Center in Brainerd, MN. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, October 22, 2025 at St. John's Catholic Church in Lastrup, MN with Father Aaron Nett & Father David Maciej officiating. Burial will take place at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery north of Little Falls. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church. Military Rites will be conducted by the Minnesota State Honor Guard. Caring for George and his family is the LeMieur Funeral Home in Pierz, MN.
Born May 29, 1948 in Brainerd, MN, George was the son of the late Joseph and Clara (Paulsen) Kummet. George enlisted in the Air Force in 1966 and served until 1972. He spent years driving truck to the western US, Canada and Alaska. He worked 30-plus years for the Minnesota Department of Transportation and retired in 2019. George was a hard-working man. He loved and enjoyed many hours in the woods cutting firewood. He loved to travel with his beloved wife and they were always up for an adventure. George played baseball for many years for the Lastrup Lakers. He was a kind man who was always there to help whoever he could. George took great pride in his three grandsons, and he taught them many things through the years. George had a great faith and a love for his country.
George is survived by his wife, LyAnn; daughter, Amy (Brian) Loch; grandsons, Mason, Grady and Owen
and his sister, Maureen Voltin.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Clara Kummet; brother, John Kummet; sister, Mary Kummet Weiss; and niece, Vanessa Weiss.
