George Vernon Larson was born on April 2, 1938, at home in Hill River Township in Polk County and died at home on January 1, 2026, in
Bagley, Minnesota.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 8, 2026, at the Cease Family Funeral Home Chapel of Bagley at 2:00 p.m. with the visitation at 1pm. A luncheon will follow the service at the funeral home. The final resting place will be at Bagley City Cemetery.
George grew up on a farm, graduated from Fosston High School in 1956, and continued his education with some welding classes. He married Elaine Sundbom on April 18, 1959, in
Sioux Falls, SD.
George was a welder by trade but was innately talented in so many other areas. He was an engineer at heart, possessing the brain and skills of an engineer without formal training. He would assess a problem and in his quiet yet determined way, solve it with his ingenuity and few resources. Before moving to
Bagley, MN, he worked as a foreman building a sawmill in
Laona, WI. Prior to this he worked at DU-AL Manufacturing for 10 years as a welder in SD. His analytical mind, common-sense know-how, and hard work ethic allowed him to construct additions and remodel his own home in
Bagley, MN, while he worked at Wang Trucking in
Winger, MN from the early 1970s until he retired at the age of 62. He was proud of his work there, including lengthening over the road trucks and adding a dump box and hoist system. During this time while working as a welder, he also ran a small farm with beef cattle and milk cows, along with various farm animals throughout the years. He and his wife Elaine lived on the farm until they moved into town in 2018.
Although there was limited time for hobbies, George enjoyed hunting with his sons. A proud moment was when he shot a 12-point buck on their Bagley farmstead. When his sons were younger, he would take them fishing. Sometimes they went with his father-in-law, Hugo Sundbom, and other times he would take them to Clearwater Lake to fish from shore. He also enjoyed solving puzzles in Variety Puzzle books.
George was dedicated to his family. His wife, Elaine, cherishes the time they had together, raising their family and spending time together for over 66 years. His children remember him as the most patient man who was always there for them from playing softball to driving them to school early or picking them up late to support their extracurricular activities. He taught his daughters to drive, and they could always count on their dad to help them with all their little problems. George loved and was proud of his children and grandchildren. Time with his grandchildren was always a joy. Every Friday, he would stop in Fosston and visit his mother while she lived there.
