George W. Laskey Jr, a lifelong fixture for the City of Malden, passed away on Saturday, Augst 16th, at the age of 78. George was born in Malden in 1947, the son of George W. Sr and Gertrude (Sheilds) Laskey. He was raised and educated in Malden, graduating from Malden High School with the Class of 1965. He then went on to work for the Malden Housing Authority in their Maintenance Department, first at the Newland St complex and later at the senior housing at Forest Dale.

George was and active member of the community, serving on many city boards and councils. He was also active with the Lions Club where he served as a board member, and the Malden Order of Moose where he enjoyed playing shuffleboard. In addition he was an active bowler for over 40 years.

George was a devout Catholic and faithful communicant of Sacred Hearts Parish in Malden. He served on the Board of Directors for Bread of Life in Malden for over 20 years. Another great achievement of Georges is starting the Thanksgiving program at the Malden High School over 30 years ago, where he and friends would make and serve Thanksgiving dinner to the homeless and needy. That program had fed thousands of people in the Malden community over the years.

He is survived by his niece Theresa Long and her husband Jason Sparrow, his nephew James Long Sr.. He was also the proud uncle of Tracey Bittle Jr, and Sabria Bittle, and Tayla Long, Bianca Long, Caitlin Long , Alexa Long and James Long Jr.

In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Long.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, August 22nd from the Weir-MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem St, at 9 AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Sacred Hearts Church, Malden, at 10 AM. Interment to follow in Puritan Lawn Cemetery, Peabody.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, August 21st, from 4 – 8 PM.
